Best Pad for Price
I inherited two very well made oriental rugs. One 15 years ago and 1 this past month. These rugs sit on top of wall to wall carpet. I sent both out to be cleaned and found I had to replace my old pad (for the rug I already had) which I had purchased for about $50 at a home improvement store about 14-15 years ago because the rug was shifting all the time and it was a hazard and embarrassing when entertaining. The old "pad" (I use the term loosely as it was really thin) actually was sticky and stuck to the top of the carpet and the bottom of the oriental rug. I really didn't want to repeat with this same kind of pad although it came off both without damage or residue. The same home improvement store was still offering the sticky kind for $50, but also offered something online only similar to the ones from Amazon for $120 (each) and I needed 2! Ouch!! Was very pleased to find these for $75 each and free shipping. Even with free shipping delivery was quick enough coming the day promised about a week later. My rugs are 8'x10' and the first pad fit within 1" on all sides. One side was slightly irregular in its cut but still fit without need to trim it. Does exactly what it is supposed to. Oriental rug doesn't shift at all, is more padded than before. I like that they will still be useful if we were to move or upgrade to other flooring in those rooms. I am really, really pleased with it. I have yet to put the second one down, but am expecting that I will be just as pleased when I do.UPDATE: still loving the first one we put down under the older oriental, which was a true 8'x10' size and so no trimming needed. Waited until November to put down second newer oriental, which is not quite 8'x10', more like 7'8"x9'10", so I had to trim two edges significantly. Yes cuts fine with regular scissors, but it has to be the right pair of scissors. I tried 3 different pairs before I find a pair that worked to cut properly and relatively easily. Thankfully, the scissors didn't seem to suffer any adverse effect, like getting dull or breaking or anything. I found that it works better to trim this with two people, one cutting and the other pulling the excess out of the way as we moved among each of the two sides we had to trim. Even so, I ended up with a raw spot on one hand that got rubbed to much during the process. It healed but if you buy and need to trim, consider wearing gloves to protect yourself from the same boo boo. Now that the second pad is trimmed, the second rug is in place and the furniture put back into position, I can honestly say I am still very, very pleased with the purchase and quality of both pads, especially for the price I paid at the time ($75 each, which I see has gone up significantly since, but given my experience and satisfaction with these, I'd still consider purchasing at current price as it is still over $10.00 less each compared to prices offered online through home improvement stores). No buckling, wrinkles, shifting despite a heavy Dunken Fife style dining table dead center on the second rug.

Quality Pad For Extending the Life of Area Rugs
After a furniture store tried to sell me a low-quality, waffle-style, latex rug pad for a hefty price, I came here to find something better, and I'm thrilled with the quality of this pad. I bought both 9' x 12' and 2.5' x 9' sizes, and they make my rugs feel plusher under my feet. Even better, I have no worries that the pads will destroy my new hardwood floors since they are made of 100% rubber (not latex or foam) on one side and 100% felt on the other. For hardwood or tile floors, you put the rubber side down, and, if you want to put an area rug over carpet, you do the reverse. The manufacturer guarantees that the pads will not mar floors, but, of course, no manufacturer will replace wood floors, only its product, making the guarantee kinda pointless. Years ago, a latex version had ruined my wood floors, and I've been cautious ever since about pads. In this case, I'm confident, based on the quality I see, that my wood floors will remain in great condition under the pads. The pads did not cost much more than the furniture store wanted to charge me for their flimsy synthetic latex one.Since rugs are not manufactured to exact measurements -- a "9' x 12'" may be slightly smaller or larger -- you may have to trim the pad to fit with heavy-duty shears or a carpet cutter. I had to trim one out of three pads because one 9' x 12' pad was larger than the rug by several inches. With the other two, I did not have to do this, although it took a few attempts to lay the rugs just so to keep the pad from poking out on one side or another. My area rugs have not budged an inch since I placed them on the pads.Naturally, this pad adds thickness, about 1/4". It makes it more difficult to transition a vacuum cleaner from hard floors to carpet, and in a house with a shuffler, it might create a tripping hazard. Rug pads are supposed to extend the life of rugs by minimizing the wear and tear on the backing. I spend enough on my area rugs and on my hardwood floors to want to protect them in the best way possible.I am glad I found this premium rug pad. I know that the price may seem expensive to some; however, consider what you are protecting. For me, weighing that cost was a no-brainer. The best part is that my rugs feel wonderful underfoot.-- Debbie Lee Wesselmann
