Original Baldwin keys are the way to go.
I could have gotten a key cut on a normal blank and been done with it. But I like the fact that the Baldwin branded blanks are a harder metal and don't wear down like regular keys.

Just like the ones that came with my locks
Had the blank cut and it works great.

Perfect Baldwin Blanks
Had a locksmith re-key seven locks for the same key, but used a generic key which stuck a little bit. I had locksmith copy generic key to these Baldwin blanks (front door only is Baldwin) and now door opens really smoothly. For Baldwin or Emtek locks, these blanks are the best. Note: Home Depot and Lowes refuse to cut them but any locksmith will.

It's can not be used for the New Baldwin Kwikset keys
I purchased these keys hoping it will work for me, but I found out later it doesn’t fit right. This key will not work with the new Baldwin (Kwikset, KW1) keys because it too short. I need a 97 or KW1 blank key in-order to make a spear key for my Baldwin keys and these blank keys will only work for the older Baldwin system. Don’t buy these keys unless you have the older Baldwin key, which have a number 3 on the backside of the key. If you have a KW1 on the backside of your key, then you have a newer Baldwin smartkey and these blank keys will not work for you. I love the Baldwin keys system and prefer having the logo on each key so in the end I had to go back to Lowe’s to purchase the compatible blank smart-key for Baldwin to make my spears keys, even though I couldn’t get the effect of the gold keys look that I wanted.

Okay but alloy now used is.....
softer and cheaper than alloy of, say, 30+ years ago. Easier to warp or bend key with softer alloy.
