The New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement introduced many talented bands over the years, some of which became living legends of the genre. Although Spartan Warrior never managed to reach the first league, their albums remain worthy representatives of t

Completely Neglected Classic
Spartan Warrior took me by surprise with this hidden masterpiece of the NWOBHM. The band, in comparison to their guitar-focused comrades, are very bass-centric, structuring their songs around heavy bass-grooves that make them quite unique -- even amongst a music movement of uniqueness! Almost all of the songs are memorable, and all of them are fast-attacking and feature amazing guitar riffs -- plus the aforementioned bass grooves. This album suffers from that weird "recorded in a tin can" sound, meaning that it sounds a little thin and quite metallic. In fact, the drums almost sound like a person clapping! This makes it, shockingly, very catchy! It might, then, even be a coincidence that this album sounds as good as it does, but man does it sound fantastic! If you are the type of metalhead who likes to actually hear the bass in the songs you are listening too... who enjoys killer guitar riffage and raw vocals, then Spartan Warrior has created the perfect album for you.If I were to compare Spartan Warrior to another band... I would have difficulty. I would say that the instrumentals (with the exception of the bass) sound like Judas Priest, and the vocalist is really quite unique. I'm quite shocked that Spartan Warrior aren't more lauded for this album, they really do some groundbreaking stuff here! It is at least worth your time to check out!

When I found this self titled Spartan Warrior I was very excited about how good of a band and this record really was
I have been on a NWOBHM kick for over a year now. Digging up all the old bands that never made it but should have. I have found a lot of forgotten gems and collected all that I can. When I found this self titled Spartan Warrior I was very excited about how good of a band and this record really was. In fact I believe that they were one of the very best of the period, and this is now one of my very favorites. This Is some of the best metal of the period and hard to believe that it was 1984 , and I had never heard of them. This is the 2nd release by this band after the debut album, Steel and Chains. I was so astounded by this band that I had to have that one also , the trouble is that it was never released on cd. Being a vinyl collector I finally found a very rare lp and while it has to date been the largest investment in any lp that I have ever collected, it was well worth it. As it too showed the power and greatness of this band. Hopefully one day Metal Mind productions will also release it on cd also. If your into the early metal of the NWOBMH period Spartan Warrior is a absolute must for your collection ! Buy it.
