Excellent way to keep ants away--be sure to fill the moat high enough to allow for evaporation on a hot day. I recommend removing the little rubber feet before washing so they don't fall out. Very durable and easy to clean: hand wash or dishwasher. A great find; we bought two!

So these work partially! I fill them up, add food, add water to the exterior moat. Then within 24 hours the ants i guess have sacrificed some of their own to get across to the food. Then i have to dump out the remaining food, wash the bowl and start over!

My animals are messy.I have a cat and dog and they must be the messiest creatures ever... When eating they spill food and it falls in the water channel and it becomes hard to clean watery food mush!But so far it has kept the ants away!If your animals are polite eaters this is probably perfect and I really can't complain it performs as promised so far.

I bought this for my outside cat. The reservoir, as some had commented, is not very deep; but it works just fine for me. I have this bowl by my back door so I usually just take a cup of water and refill it when I put food out. It does need cleaned (algae does build up in the reservoir) occasionally. For convenience, and also less cleaning of the bowl, I bought a small metal bowl which I put the food into and then place that bowl inside of this bowl. I've been using it now for several months and the ants have not bothered his food; which was the main reason for this purchase. Overall, I would recommend this product and purchase again, if needed.

This is a great bowl for keeping the ants out of my cat food. The water moat serves the purpose. It would be nice if the ball came out, but I’ve worked around that by putting a smaller bowl inside. This way I take the smaller bowl out and put the food in it and I only have to refresh the water and pick up the dish once a day.

I've used this bowl to feed a stray cat outside and this works great for hard or soft food. Easy to clean and even with water in the reservoir, she doesn't drink it because we have a bowl of water for her already. This prevents not only ants but other small insects from getting to her food. We do have to clean it out every other day. Plus with the heat, we have to fill it with water around the same time unless its really hot then daily. Doesn't take much water to fill the reservoir but it does stop insects from eating her food.

I use these to feed my outdoor, feral cat. So far it has kept all the bugs out of the food. I gave it four stars instead of five simply because I wish it was stainless steel. I know plastic tends to cause a cat’s chin to become oily and can lead to chin acne. However, I use them because they do work great at keeping ants and other bugs out of the food.

This bowl does the trick if you keep the “moat like” reservoir filled. Water does evaporate in a couple of days and needs to be refilled but that is to be expected and not a negative. The only issue I have is that moving the bowl without spilling the reservoir water is difficult. Still, id but this again and feel it does the job I bought it for.
