This knife is very sharp, but designed to safely strip cables. Like every Knipix product, it’s the best on the market.

I have used this several times and really like it. When trying to strip the protective coating off UF wire, it can be a pain. You can’t inadvertently nick the insulation on the wire or you run the risk of messing everything up. It seems stupid but after you have hundreds of feet of wire buried, thes ends become so much more critical - maybe it is just me but i feel like if i screw up i am going to have redo the wire in the trench...now i know in my logical mind this isn’t the case. Typically, i will use a razor or my everyday carry knife. While these both work the knifed tool excels thanks to the ergonomics of the handle, the compact blade in sort of a bird’s beak configuration, and of course the sharpness of the blade. I feel like i have a lot of control of the knife. So is this a must buy like a pair of wire strippers? Of course not, but if you install a good deal of direct burial wire and are frustrated with the time consuming process of stripping the coating it is worth a chance.

Removing the sheathing from larger cables often results in damaging the jacket on the inner cables when using a knife. This tool lets you see what you are doing while you strip the sheathing off and works on medium Tom large size multi conductor cables.

Stared at this thing for a long time (weeks), wondering how well it would work. I work with a lot of SO cable and SOOW cable, this thing is a lifesaver. Cuts installation time so much. If you're hesitant about buying it. Just buy it.

The knife did it's job well to the point it sliced a chunk of my hand because I was not careful where I was holding the cable. Total dummy mistake on my part but knife is sharp so it sliced my hand cleanly three stitches later. But as a tool it cleanly sliced open bundled cable it did get stuck but when it does, do not push harder let go of pressure and try to adjust the angle of the blade so it can slide easy again.

Wanted one for years and finally pulled the trigger. It works great, I wish I hadn’t waited so ling. it’s a lot of money for a knife of limited use but it does it’s job well. I do a lot of transformer, switchgear and equipment hook ups and have been using this knife a lot in the past couple of weeks. I was almost in disbelief after stripping my first cabtyre, it was so fast and easy! On thicker outer casing like on a 4c#6 it does bog down but I just give it a quick score down the length with my regular knife then the knipex knife opens it up in no time with no risk of damaging the conductor insulation.It has no sign of dulling yet but I am not looking forward to sharpening this oddly shaped knife.

Originally I thought knife would be bulky from the photo but once it arrived i realized it fits in my hands quite well. Works like a charm on the inner jacket of teck cables. It takes a while to get used to but after a few times it'll glide effortlessly, so far using it on only the inner jackets I think the non replaceable blade will not dull as long as you don't use it on other metals (such as copper wires) as i always have my other knife and wire strippers on me to strip wires for termination.
