great series and book.
I loved the story. I have been to the area and kept picturing everything in my head. The story line is great. The characters are truly interesting. I recommend this clean western frontier book.

Good, Page-Turning Story
This was a very good romance story. The only problem I have had with Mary Connealy's historical romances is that in places, the dialog is too modern - for instance, the use of "can I" rather than "may I". But overall, I loved the characters and reading about how they grew and overcame obstacles. I also loved the clean, inspirational aspect of the plot. There was plenty of romance but it never crossed the line into improper behavior, which was just right for upstanding citizens of the era/place. I also liked how the women of the story stood up for themselves and weren't afraid to learn all the skills necessary for life in the wilderness. The fact that they never lost their femininity to do it earns bonus points. If you enjoy inspirational, western-themed,clean romance, then definitely try this one.

Great Second Book in a Series
I love Mary Connealy's books. This one is no exception. The story starts not too far along from where the first book ended - and jumps into action from word one. I enjoyed how Cam and Gwen work together for the sake of two children they both love - even though they don't quite like each other from first meet. There's lots of action and humor that kept me turning pages until I finished. I cannot ever NOT finish a Mary Connealy book once I've started. The reading is too good to stop. I am so looking forward to reading the Third (& final) book in the series to see how everything gets wrapped up. Although each book is complete in itself. It's still fun to see the characters I've come to know a bit farther along in their stories.

Wonderful Book
This the second book in the High Sierra Sweethearts series was so good I could hardly stand to put it down until I was done.It was like some old friends that I met in book one just moved on with their lives.I opened book 2 and dove right in since I was familiar with the characters it was so easy to get into. This book was more about Cam and Gwen and the children.Raddo is back and tries to kill everyone but doesn’t get the job done so the men go hunting for him. Cam’s daughter and nephew are scared of him because he is loud and bossy from life in the military .Gwen decides to help him with the children and teaches him to be quiet and kind when dealing with them.Gwen is so desperate not to lose the children she has learned to love.

Good clean read
I think this book had everything. Excitement, love,( agape and eros) realism, terror, and happily ever after.I love reading, but have great difficulty finding stories that are not riddled with objectionable content. "Romance" novels can be smutty and leave one feeling sick. Even Science fiction books have become downright disturbing.Unfortunately, many "clean" authors get too preachy to actually tell a story, or develop characters or sometimes even to use real words in a grammaticality correct and correctly spelled sentence. This book was none of the above, and I am most grateful for it!

Definitely Not a Reluctant Read
In the novel, The Reluctant Warrior, the author, Mary Connealy, builds the tension incrementally from start to finish. Her fabulous writing carries the reader along keeping the reader flipping pages. In this story set in the rugged high Sierra Nevada mountains, two children, a boy Ronnie and a girl Maddie Sue, together with a group of committed Christian men and women, come together to form a novel worth reading. The children star as totally authentic little ones. The manly men, especially the hero Cam, provide the perfect foil for the evil, yet cowardly desperado, Raddo. The utterly feminine women, especially the heroine Gwen, exhibit heroic traits of bravery as well as tenderness in caring for the children, the men, and each other. The dog, named Wolf for the wild half of his pedigree, figures into the action in a very real way. Dog lovers are going to cheer for him and love him by the end! (That said, this isn't a dog story!) Taken together, this is a not to be missed read. The end is absolutely riveting! That's all the clues I'm leaving for the reader of this review. You'll just have to read the book for yourself to find out more. Happy reading!

Decent read
But the first book in the series was better. This one gets a bit predictable and monotonous at times. The characters are well portrayed, you get so familiar with them.

Loved book 2
Good to catch the bad guy. Enjoyed the blend from book 1 to 2.Bit more time to see a house built would be good.

Good
I enjoyed that it continued the previous book, as it had left things unresolved. This book has a great insight on what it means to "be not afraid". A real gem. It still feels like the story is not complete, however. Not sure if there is another book to finally tie up all loose ends. Apart from that, a good read.
