It's weird. It's dorky. It's B-grade. It's perfect!
I've loved this goofy send up of classic horror as long as I've known it. It references so many movies I learned about later, and so it just kept getting funnier!

Horror has never had as much fun
One of the funniest Horror parodies out there. Silly...campy...but still alot of laughs. The opening scene with parody Leatherface, Freddy & Jason chasing the stunningly beautiful Redhead, Monique Gabrielle, into a cave. The camera then shakes & there are sounds imply a fight...then having Monique come out with Freddy's Hat, Jason's mask & Leatherface's chainsaw, laughing and saying, "Amateurs" showing she is a Vampire.Robert Vaughn's Baron Byron Orlock-k, Ace Mask's Van Helsing, Angus Scrimm's Stephan; and even a cameo of Boris Karloff via clips from the film, The Terror, make for a fun film. Teri Kopley as Marissa Orlock makes a great heroine..and hersongs from the film are memorable... Just Give Me Action & Caught In The Middle of Love.

One of my favorite parodies from the late 80s
This has become a favorite of mine all over again since recently replacing it, although I would've preferred DVD but it's just too expensive. It's a monster movie parody: both modern (up to 1989 anyway) and classic ones. The cast is mostly unknown, other than Robert Vaughn as a Dracula like vampire and some of his lines and how he gives them are a riot! It's a kid/ teen friendly movie with some injokes and references that just fit for me, but check it out for yourself and don't take my word for it. Plus if you find a cheap disc copy on here, grab it but with this film, being a monster movie and b-movie fan won't hurt.

This is a great horror spoof
The description of this movie is very wrong.Dexter; the nephew of the Arkham MA librarian is tasked to bring back the Book Of Ulthar that was checked out by a professor years before. While trying to contact Dr Orlock Dxter meets his beautiful daughter Marissa and goes with her to Transylvania when she learns that her father has died. While looking for the book Dexter and Marissa have to deal with three adopted cousins who are not vegans and a very hungry Uncle, luckily they are joined by intrepid vampire hunter along the way.

Information about the DVD version
I now have the DVD version. Here is what you get...The video is cleaned up some. The package says "digitally remastered". Maybe. Better than the video I own of this. The DVD is pan-and-scan. Probably was a "straight to video" production, so there may not be a letterbox version. It contains a scene that was cut from the original video release! At the end Dexter Ward comments about "That was worse than my song". In the original video release it did not make alot of sense because he did not sing a song in the film. This cut has the song. (And you can figure why is was cut. Quite silly and kind of painful.)There are bios and a couple of original trailers. (One for this film and one for "Saturday the 14th".)There are no subtitles or alternate sound tracks of any sort. The sound is pretty clean. Well worth getting even without a lot of extras.

Too cheesy and not funny
I ordered this movie because I read other reviews and thought it would be a good laugh. It really isn't. It is basically more cheese than wit. If you like cheesy, this is for you. If you like a little bit more to your plot, even if it is humor, I'd say pass this one up. I plan on donating this one to our local thrift shop. If I liked it better, I would give it to a friend. I like offbeat humor and I enjoy the combo of humor and mystery or thriller. This is just eighties cheese at its worst. I don't think even during its time I would have liked it and I have liked some cheesy stuff. It isn't as bad as I've seen. I've seen worse. It isn't very good though. If you want cheap entertainment that you likely won't treasure, go ahead and watch it. Otherwise, go with Young Frankenstein or something a little more funny if you still want the cheese.

Its like airplane but for Hammer horror films instead of 1970's disaster flicks
I have been looking for this movie for years, having first seen it on cinemax back in the late eighties/early nineties (I was like six, I can't remember). No one else I knew had ever heard of it and I didn't know its name. I'm so glad I found it (had to google it based on half remembered plot details and dialogue). It's campy as all hell and worth every penny. If you liked Airplane you'll like Transylvania Twist.

Great parody with many fun moments
Very much a product of its time, still holds up well for a humorous 90 minutes. Steve Altman was kind of the weakest point. Hard to say if he just did the best with what he had to work with. But Robert Vaughn, Howard Morris and Teri Copely are 4 of my favorite stars!
