Excellent book!
This was recommended by my watercolour tutor. I wish I have known this book earlier when I started painting more than two decades ago!

More about design and planning than watercolour technique
This is not a book focussed on technique, but rather provides a very good background on how to plan, design, and develop a watercolor painting. There are great basics and the author uses examples well to demonstrate the principles of design. The chapters on actual painting do a good job in providing foundational "symbols/shapes" that can be used to represent objects in paintings (ie. techniques for water, trees, rocks, etc.). Gave me lots to think about as painter just being to explore the creation of my own original works.

Invaluable purchase!
I own a whole bunch of books about watercolour from authored by Joseph Zbukvic to Trevor Chamberlain to Ewa Karpinska to Ron Ranson and etc. They are all good books and each one offers something to learn. But this book is a real deal! I never write reviews, but this is an eye opening treasure destined to make you see your art in a new way. This book and principles if you follow them is bound to elevate your art to a whole new level. There is no quick fix and you still have to work at analyzing and composing the painting, however what a joy it is when you know the direction!
