Best backpack I've ever had
This backpack is the bee's knees. When I started college, I'd gotten a cheaper backpack that literally fell apart by the end of my first year, and had started ripping by the end of the first semester. I decided I couldn't go wrong with Carhartt, and hot damn was I right. This backpack is marvelous. I didn't realize how awful the weight distribution of my old one was until I got this. It's actually comfortable to wear (the padding on the back is wonderful) and it distributes the weight in such a way that it doesn't put too much strain on your shoulders (I have really bad shoulders so this was a big big plus). When I first got it, I thought it was gonna be kind of small, but this thing is like Hermione's purse in Deathly Hallows. You can put all of your books in it and still have more space. I've used it as an overnight bag, too, but packing my things on top of my school supplies. I really like that the zippers are covered because, again, my old backpack that claimed to be water resistant left all of my belongings soaked when I got caught in a downpour. This one is TRULY water resistant, and moisture doesn't soak through it. I really like the material and I really like the pockets - the top one on the outside makes a great pencil case and the one below is the ideal size for odds and ends like lipstick, lotion, mints, etc. The water bottle pockets are the perfect size too, and won't let your water bottle go flying when you swing your backpack on (guess what did let that happen). I could clearly go on about this backpack forever. I've had it one semester now, rain, snow, and shine, and it doesn't even show any sign of wear or tear. VERY high quality and a fantastic deal

Comfortable & sturdy backpack
I had been trying to find a book bag that wouldn’t make carrying items hurt my shoulders. I’m a college student who has to carry around notebooks, laptop, tablet, water etc. I got it today and wore it off to class as well. It was so comfortable it didn’t feel too rough, hard or too too new if that makes sense. It’s just really so comfortable. The laptop pouch is amazing, it actually is able to hold my laptop and have a strap keep it in place! It can also easily carry my 1L water bottle, it’s a chunky water bottle! Lastly the material is good, well done and good stitching. Overall I’d say it’s worth the money and it’s definitely going to last me for a while.

Great for students with heavy books!
Fantastic, heavy duty and well built. The straps are well padded and distribute the weight of a heavy bag well. I fit 3 books, a binder, notebook, lap top, pencil bag, charger, and headphones in. There was still plenty of room for my wallet, keys, a lunch bag and another large book. Room for water bottles on the side pockets.Last semester the weight of my books killed my shoulders and the straps eventually started tearing. With a similar load this semester, my shoulders barely notice the weight. The zippers are heavy duty, it’s well constructed and I’m counting on this backpack to last. Another bonus is that it’s not enormous on my back. I wouldn’t call it “minimalist” but it’s also not bulky or tacky.

Top-quality backpack, durable, useful, and smart-looking
One of the highest quality day packs I've ever owned. I wanted one that was NOT narrowly built, geared only to people carrying laptops and devices. This one, although it has inner pockets for a laptop and tablet, has plenty of space to carry clothing and other gear. The top outside pocket is the perfect size for my glasses case or my phone, and the bottom pocket is useful for a dozen purposes. It seems very durable and well made, and best of all, it actually stands upright when you set it down (so tired of those that topple over)! The only con is the thick strap with industrial-strength Velcro that spans the inside laptop pockets. It is impossible to unfasten with one hand, and it's mostly in the way. There is no way to remove it either. But this is a small thing. A great bag I would happily recommend to others. I don't know how it will do in the Portland rain, but I suspect just fine.

Good Organization
I bought this backpack recently after my last was stolen. I was looking for something that made organizing my materials easy and was waterproof. I recently traveled to England and my suitcase got lost. The only thing I had was what is packed in this bag for the next 8 days. It was a phenomenal bag. It went everywhere with us, and held everything we needed. I sprayed it with an extra layer of waterproofing spray just to be safe, and it held up beautifully our whole trip. The pockets on the front have many small pockets that make it a breeze to keep pens and pencils within easy reach. The laptop pocket closes with a stretchy Velcro piece which lets you carry items of different sizes in the two pockets easily.

My son loves it
My 12 yr old son was going through backpacks like crazy due to the heavy stuff he carries around school all day ( no lockers available for him) . He liked the looks of this one and I liked the positive reviews on durability. So far its holding up great after about a month and he commented on how much more comfortable and lighter feeling it was than his last several. So far I'm happy to have bought this one
