Weak Soup; Chewy Mushrooms; Good Price
This is a nice quantity of mushrooms, but the quality is not as good as I've bought elsewhere. The mushrooms that I normally buy, admittedly, are more expensive. However, the intensity of the flavor of these is significantly more mild. After I cooked these my wife had a taste and her reaction was "Wow, these are like tea, not soup!" Also, the more expensive mushrooms were edible That is, once hydrated/cooked, you could eat them like fresh mushrooms. These mushrooms, on the other hand, were tough and rubbery. I strained the soup and tossed the mushrooms out. I saved the soup with a heaping tablespoon of umami powder. It's important to note that the other, quality mushrooms that we usually buy cost more the twice as much. You get what you pay for. I think that if you use more mushrooms (I used 1/3 of the container to make 10 servings), the flavor would be stronger. So the good news is that this is a less expensive option.

mouth full of grit...
Disclaimer: I am not a professional chef. However, I do feel like I did my research before trying to cook these dried mushrooms. I followed the package directions. (soaked 25 minutes in hot water, rinse, boil for 5 min). Took and extra step of rinsing them under running water. I strained the soaking liquid using a coffee filter to be extra sure I got all the grit (ever had a mouthful of sand? yeah, like that). Added them to a chuck roast with some of the strained broth. The roast came out great with really good flavor. First bite of mushrooms there was a hard, woody piece. Pressed on with it and the second bite was like biting into a sand castle. I'm afraid to try using them again. I would hate to ruin another meal.

Terrific Flavor - and not as Spendy as you Might Think
Before you dismiss these because of the price, consider how much you'd spend for fresh mushrooms of this quality. A lot. The truth is, 12 ounces of dried mushrooms go a looong way. We began getting these out of necessity because we live in the Alaska bush where obtaining fresh mushrooms is out of the question. We'd tried other type of dried mushrooms, including several brands of tree ears. These are better. Way better. We use them in omelets, soups, pasta dishes, as a side dish with steak (and moose, and caribou) and on burgers. At this point, we'd keep a container of these mushrooms around even if we lived where fresh mushrooms are available. They're that good, and they're super convenient. Mushrooms that essentially never go bad - now that's a good idea.

Trusted!
First of all, these are processed in France. I much rather eat these than mushrooms processed in China! They work extremely well if you combine them with fresh mushrooms. If you plan to sauté them (after re-hydrating), dry them well by squeezing them between paper towels. Read the directions carefully on how to re-hydrate them. Oh....make sure you wash them thoroughly . I use a salad spinner and change the water several times. One of the mushrooms in this mix is rather large and black. Looks like a chicken liver. It’s quite chewy and you might want to chop it well before adding it to your recipe. The mix has a good taste. I use them in spaghetti, stroganoff, meatloaf, etc., etc.

Amazing for the right dishes!!! <3
These mushrooms go great with our mushroom risotto!!!!! I recommend following the directions very carefully! Wash them very good with a tight strainer first. When you soak the mushrooms do so in a tall bowl that the hot water can just submerge the mushrooms, and then Save that infused water to pour into the rice later. Can edit the whole recipe if your interested. However, when i cook fish tacos I prefer fresh portobellos ;p

Came here when Costco stopped carrying it
I do enjoy these for all manner of mushroom themed dishes and soups. I will agree that there are a few in the mix that can be very woody. However they stay distinct while dry and you can easily pull those out prior to soaking should that bother you.

Good flavor, chewy texture
The flavor is good, some of the pieces just don't soften up. I followed the directions on the bottle to prepare them for cooking and then cooked for more than an hour in a soup. They might be better in a stew? The soaking liquid is beautiful, dark and tasty. You want to use this! I also appreciate that this product is from Europe.

Meh with bites of eww inbetween
Soaked as directed & then sauteed. The overall flavor experience was meh with tastes of eww inbetween. Also there was a large amount of white button (cheap a$$ mushrooms) in the mix which, although is shown on the jar picture, is not advertised nor included in the ingredients on the jar. So that's false advertising because those are not gourmet, they're the cheapest mushrooms you can find everywhere. I'm giving this 2 stars because the black trumpets & (few n far between) oyster caps, & cheap buttons were tasty. Also because I'm going to see if the overall flavor experience might be a tad better with pasta? (Minus the bites that taste awful & are spit out- idk if maybe some were rotten before drying?)What else, oh yes, there is definitely some sand/grit in some bites as others have mentioned.I won't be buying again but will make use of as much if the jar as I can & separate the definite tasty ones from the rest.
