For young women, not girls!
This is not at all a bad magazine, but make no mistake -- it is not for ten year olds! One would certainly hope that little girls are not yet interested in "what boys really want," and getting a good "bikini body." Parents -- don't choose this magazine for a child!Aside from the publisher's mis-information regarding the target audience, this is an entertaining and fun magazine for high school or young college girls. Of course, it's heavy on the advertisements, but those are the advertisements for all the stuff that teens are interested in. When I read teen magazines as a kid, I drooled over those ads for stuff I dreamed about having! It was just fun, and didn't warp my perception of reality or my position in the world. Don't mistake this for literature or high art -- this is just a little brain candy and fluff to pass the time. As that -- it's a sure hit as a gift for the teen in your life!Recommended as a fun distraction for your busy, stressed and overworked teens!

Supplement to a Reading Class
Love that there is something for girls to read. Was looking for a similar magazine to Boy’s Life to add to a 7th grade reading class. Sometimes reluctant readers do better with articles, than long books. This worked well to add choice.

Solid magazine for teens without a ton of celebrities
Solid magazine for teen girl. Articles are relatively age-appropriate and about topics that are important to many teen girls (fashion, friendship, boys, school, activities and socializing). Notice I said "many", obviously if your teen is not into these things, then this would not be a good fit. I also like that this magazine features more "regular teens" and less "celebrity teens" (like J14). There are celebrity articles, however. For those worried about delivery: I ordered this in October, and she received her first issue within a month, which I consider a quick turn-around for online subscriptions.

This magazine is appalling
I never write reviews, but I feel like I have to put this out there. I loath this magazine. It's like Cosmo for children. The underlying message of the magazine is that your value is based on how you look and what you have. The cover is all makeup, shopping and boys. It's like the opposite of Boys' Life magazine where the message is to learn how to be a good citizen and gain useful skills. It's fine as an occasional diversion, but shovelling this garbage into your brain every month cannot be healthy for a pre-teen girl. Go find something more mentally nutritious, it shouldn't be hard. I would rather my daughter read People magazine any day of the week.

Make user friendly.
For my Grandaughter. Tried more than three times to change address where it was to be sent. Never worked. It comes to my house NOT WHERE I wanted it sent.

Girls' Life Magazine
I ordered this for my nine year old daughter. From reading about it online at the time it seemed appropriate. I will admit I am not crazy about censoring what she reads and watches. However after ordering it I saw it in the store and flipped through it. I immediately canceled my order. It is not appropriate for a nine year old. She would love the celebrities (often Disney Channel girls) and the fashion and beauty articles. Along with recipes and other fun things, but there is also plenty of articles that I do not think she is old enough for yet. I will wait until she is at least 12. Just a heads up for other parents.
