Well Worth the Cost
I do not have an attitude indicator in my instrument panel. I always fly VFR, but there have been a few times when I got stuck in MVFR. I bought this device, hoping it would serve my needs. I assumed that I would have to use the windscreen suction cup mount, but it comes with a quick install mount that allows you to pop it right into an empty hole in the instrument panel. I had a vertical speed indicator directly in front of me, and removed it in about 2 minutes. I installed the Dynon in about 10 seconds. Because I have a taildragger, the upper portion of the instrument panel was blocking the GPS antenna within the device, but it only showed a decrease in signal strength. Once I had the plane in the air, reception was good. It also comes with an external antenna that easily mounts on the top of the panel and plugs into the side of the Dynon. The only downside to using the external antenna is that it uses excess energy and decreases battery supply time. However, it also comes with an external power cable that plugs into an accessory socket (cigarette lighter). I have been very impressed with the performance. It shows you your track heading across the ground, attitude (obviously), vertical speed, altitude, and a skid ball. It is also easy to calibrate to your specific aircraft. I was skeptical about the price, but I think it has been worth it.
