The Sword of the Templars ("JOHN ""DOC"" HOLLIDAY")

Fun quick read but lacking
This was the first book by this author that I read and I came away disappointed. While it was entertaining and action-packed (I enjoyed the Templar/WW II Nazi twist), it was hard to look past many of the errors (just one example: Fort Polk is in Louisiana - not Alabama as the author wrote). The characters were also interesting but not plausible - especially LTC "Doc" Holliday, the Vietnam era Lieutenant Colonel selected to teach History at West Point (sorry, he would not still be in the service after 35 years in the Army). Kept up hope that there would be some plot twists ... but none appeared. One good note - the book was an easy one day read.I will try the author again and hope that he has someone knowledgeable proof read it before it goes to print.

Easy read - lots of action
Plot was a little far fetched but it kept moving along. Historically it may not be correct but it is fiction!

Left me hanging
The story line was good but sometimes got a little thin and convoluted. The thing that I didn't like at all is this story just stopped and left me hanging. I know there are probably other books in the series but come on at least finish the story more than it is!

Good book
The first chapter grabbed my attention and the rest of the book followed through. I like books that makes me question things. In a fictitious way!

I have just finished reading this book and now my wife is readingit, was a great book. Just ordered two of the older books of theTemplars with (John Doc Holiday) which will bring to 13 booksby Paul Christopher. Once you start reading these books youfind it hard to wait until you start on another of his books.

Different
A different take on the Templars than you might be used to. Pretty awesome story told in an amazing way. Can't wait to read the next one.

A Fast, Fun Read
A fast read, and easy. Good yarn, with enough of the mysteries of the Knights Templar to keep my interest up. Other reviewers have hit on Christopher as being too detailed in his descriptions, and too light on the historical aspects of his subjects. I disagree on both counts. I was trained as a teacher of English, the language, and of Literature. If I want escapism, then that's what I want. If I want history, I'll go look that up. There is enough of Templar history here to lend the story an historical fiction bent, which is even better. As for being too descriptive, I don't see that at all. Christopher's descriptive powers are excellent. His characters and situations are vivid, as are his geographic settings. It was fun to open Google Earth and Google maps, and follow along. I like descriptive power without verbosity, and I think Christopher has done it. I'm already into the next one in his series.

This is my first outing with Paul Christopher and his Templar saga and for the most part I enjoyed it. He seemed to pack a lot of travelling for his characters and they seemed to move with almost breath-taking speed across the narrative covering vast amounts of territory almost in the blink of an eye. The storyline was good with tastes of Dan Brown always lurking in the back of the mind. Some of the plot was a little far-fetched and the characters were definite stereotypes such as the 'nasty Nazi' . There were also a number of loose ends such as ditching hire cars in unlikely locations with no come back as they are not returned or damaged. In this digital aid, it just didn't ring true. Would I read a sequel? Yes I probably would but it would not be high on my reading agenda.

The Da Vinci code in disguise
Yet another book on the subject of secret societies and hidden Templar treasures which has been done so many times by the likes of Dan Brown etc. However this book was ok the pace of the story was good with decent characters and was well written. The plot was somewhat predictable but kept me interested enough to read this in just a few sessions. Will I be reading the rest of the follow up books? I doubt it. I probably would if there had not been books such as the Da Vinci code. I just feel that this type of story has been told so many times now and has become repetitive. That said it is still a decent book and if you are a fan of these conspiracy theories about the Templar's treasures etc. it's not a bad effort.

All about the templars.
I started off reading book 8 until I realised there were more so started at the beginning and now on book five. I enjoy this kind of book it may not be to everyones taste but I give it four stars. The main characters are good and there is a lot historical bits in the book. I wish I could give more details about the book but each one has something special and as the books progress the same characters keep appearing. A must read for cold winters night.

An enjoyable read with historic overtures
For me, a new series by a new author. The style of writing and pace of the story made for an enjoyable read & I look forward to the 2nd instalment.
