Simple story, fun illustrations!
We love Mark Teague at our house, but our favorites--the La Rue series--are too long to hold my 2 year old's attention. Picked this one up for her birthday. The story itself is pretty bland, but the pictures are hilarious and make the book. It's a simple, short story, and perfect for a quick bed time read. My daughter loves checking out all the farm activities that are depicted, and since puppies are her very favorite thing, this book is a hit!

Funny indeed.
What I find attractive about this book is that the text is not meant to be humorous at all. It just a description of the things Edward, an anthropomorphized dog, does on a visit to his cousins' farm. The illustrations provide the humor, and they are cute to look at. Edward helps milk the cows, tend the sheep, feed the pigs, and collect eggs from the hen house. Apparently a "city dog", he's not used to these farm chores and has some trouble. Oddly, the sheep brush their teeth in the trough and pigs swing on a tire swing and also join in the barn dance. Well, it's not supposed to be logical, I guess. My 3 y/o enjoys the book and it's one of his favorites. Though there's not much text, the illustrations give you much to discuss with your child. You might not put this in your "hall of fame" of toddler reads, but it's a solid player in the game.

Great pictures. Weak story.
We're big fans of Mark Teague. The illustrations were great in this book, but despite the name, it wasn't funny. Not his best story.

Captivating for the little minds!
My 18 month old daughter LOVES this book. As many others have commented, the illustrations are great and leave much to discuss. My daughter loves to point out the different animals, make their noises, etc. I have fun watching her explore the pictures and giggle at the humor found in them. We thoroughly enjoy this book at story time!

Mark Teague books are wonderful
Poor Edgar has misadventures at every turn on his visit to the farm! My 6 year old grandson loves reading this all by himself.

Great writer
My grandson has another of these books called the Firehouse Book. We read that one over and over and even backwards at times. I saw this with the same character and had to get it. This one went home with him and he loves this one too his Mom said.

I work at a library and saw this book with the boston terrier. My daughter has a boston and thought she would love it. We love the illustration and the story of course.
