Short: An International Anthology of Five Centuries of Short-Short Stories, Prose Poems, Brief Essays, and Other Short Prose Forms

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves contemporary poetry or flash. A wide range of examples from turn of the century to modern times.

Like the genre and style. Most of the stories though....not classics, let's say.

Gem after glittering gem! I have purchased this book at least three times. It is my favorite flash anthology because it features some of the best bits of quick fiction from the last 500+ years. Every time i open it--another literary treasure. I am so thankful I found this book!

Short fills a niche that other short fiction collections have missed. Ziegler eschews many of the canonical short fiction texts for numerous gems, many of which are seemingly unclassifiable (and thus may have been overlooked by previous anthologists). Most helpful is the taxonomy of short fiction types that he provides at the end of the collection (along with cross references to the shorts published in this anthology). I used this anthology extensively in a seminar I recently taught on prose poetry, and found that it opened up new approaches to that particular "form" and encouraged the seminar attendees to explore avenues of literature they hadn't considered before.

Ambiguous literary selections are fragmented without much reasoning or explanation for why they were selected. Leaves a strange and not-entirely-interesting impression. I suppose five centuries of International prose, Etc.. in one anthology is an extremely high order. Still, I am somewhat lost in navigating the book pieces.

Not my favorite genre, but a good selection.

There are so many gems in here. This ground breaking anthology is unlike any other. Short writing, from various time periods, styles, countries. Breaks the artificial borders of genre. Highly recommended for anyone interested in literature!!

Packed with items I was unfamiliar with and it answered my need (which is personal and unusual).I'll leave you guessing.
