Bad fishy smell that can't be removed!
I purchased this ottoman bed in the fall of 2015. I was initially happy with the ottoman, but it had what i thought was a chemical smell. I thought the smell would go away in time. I did not sleep on it often and used it mostly as an ottoman, and I slept on it when my daughter would come in from college. This year I contacted the company, due to the bad smell had gotten worse. I thought this year was the third year but it is actually the fourth year so my warranty is no longer active. I purchased my ottoman on HSN for about $600.00. I saw another reviewer have the same fish smell problem. I have tried cleaning it with vinegar and water, alcohol and baking soda (vacuumed it off), febreeze, lysol, and Kids & Pets odor spray as well as setting it outside to air out after spraying it down. NOTHING has worked and I am so frustrated as this was an expensive purchase.

Do not buy , Painful mattress to sleep on due to insufficient padding over the springs.
There are painful pressure points , metal where mattress is tufted and springs are tied. Cannot sleep on ones side. There are dozens of steel coils and bars and velcro straps under the mattress which prevent you from even tucking the fitted sheet. THe mattress doesnt lift even 1/2 inch in the corners. The headboard is a dangerous metal sheet. In addition the mattress has plastic ties on top that poke out. I have to put a heavy towel on it not to feel them. The wheels dont move well once bed is in open position because they are not caster and not wide enough. The mattress is good however and latex free. The ottoman is hard to fold and unfold. Dont buy and throw your money. It is also low to the ground, and metal cross bars prevent the vacuum cleaner from getting to the floor underneath. The corners of the metal frame are not recessed from the mattress and provide a bump hazard. Will never buy again without a review.

Ooh that smell, can't you smell that smell.
A friend in the neighborhood gave me a like new Castro ottoman that she was no longer going to use. Unfortunately, this mattress is suffering the same fate as others above. The smell of dead fish is getting worse over time. We are probably going to have to throw it out soon because it makes me nauseous to enter the room it is in and I don't want to risk paying $400 to replace the mattress and have the same issue again in a number of years.

Awesome! Thrilled with this purchase!
We needed extra sleeping options for a tiny weekend home. After months of reviewing rollaway beds, cots, sleeper sofas, etc., I purchased a Castro Convertible Ottoman. I made the purchase through the Internet, directly with Castro Convertibles. Within a day, I received a follow-up phone call to confirm my purchase and discuss delivery. My ottoman arrive quickly, within about a week and a half from order placement. Here's why I love this item:1) Fully assembled. Just remove from the box, clip a few pieces of tape or secure ties, then roll into place. It does weigh about 100 lbs. so I needed help moving the item into the house.2) Easy to roll from room to room. My floors are uneven tile, and I independently move the ottoman from the main living area to the bedroom. Fits easily between my small door entrances.3) Easy to open and close. I don't even need two hands! Works as demonstrated in the video on the Castro website.4) Comfortable. I, of course, tried the ottoman immediately and slept unbelievably well. I added an inexpensive 1 1/2 thick foam pad because it was already available in the house. I have slept on the ottoman about 10 times now, as I find it more comfortable than our existing Sleep Number bed! So much easier to set-up and put-away than a blow-up mattress. Finally, I haven't noticed any metal pieces sticking out or poking me as mentioned in the previous 1 star review. I don't mind the metal headboard; it helps keep the pillows in place. It is somewhat awkward tucking in the sheets, but I don't find this an issue.Anyway, I plan to purchase an additional 2 ottomans for my other home; I'm just trying to decide between the larger vs smaller size ottoman. This is a very functional piece of furniture.Note: I'm fifty-something, female, 5'7". The smaller ottoman (e.g., about 33" wide) might not be sufficient size for a large male,

This bed stinks and there is nothing that seems to remove the smell.
I bought this ottoman in December 2014, it was only slept on twice. I just recently opened it to sleep on and noticed a terrible fishy smell that will not go away. I too have sprayed it with Lysol, pinesol, and other odor removing solutions and nothing works. This is a very expensive bed and I am very disappointed with this terrible smell that gets worse by the day. The warranty has ended and I don't know what to do about the smell.

Best Purchase Ever
We have needed a guest bed for some time, but just didn't have the space. When I was facing surgery and would be unable to use the stairs for a few days, I started researching "convertibles" so I could sleep downstairs. My first thought was to purchase a sleep-sofa, but they were expensive and our couch is perfectly fine. I came across this and took a chance after reading some great reviews. The item was delivered on my doorstep, and I was able to slide it inside, open the box, and roll it out. It was protected with plastic and getting that off was the hardest part. I had no trouble applying a mattress pad, sheets, etc.My 74 yr. old mother (who suffers from severe back pain from osteoarthritis and scoliosis) slept on it the first night and was comfortable. After my surgery, I slept on the bed for a week and loved it. I especially liked the lift-up back that allows you to sit up in bed to read or watch tv. It was more comfortable than our regular bed, and I know any guests we have will be comfortable on it as we'll.Great purchase!
