Swellegant Metal Coatings can be applied to all surfaces, including polymer clay, glass, wood, ceramic, concrete, foam, metal and resin. It is very durable, outdoor-safe, water-based, non-toxic and non-hazardous.To use, first shake well before opening. Clean the surface to be coated. (If you are coating iron, steel or aluminum, first apply a primer.) Use a brush or sponge to paint/dab the metal coating onto the surface of the piece. Allow the coating to dry to the touch (about 5-15 minutes). Then, add a second layer. If you are applying patinas or transparent dyes, apply them directly onto the metal coating, preferably while it is still moist. Mist lightly with alcohol to keep it moist, if needed. You may add metal coatings, patinas and transparent dyes in any combination, and in repeated layers to achieve interesting effects. Try burnishing the coated and patinaed pieces with 4:0 steel wool, 4-6 hours after the patinas have been added, which will expose the metal in the coating. Your piece will be fully cured in about 12 hours, after which a protective sealer can be applied to protect the finish.Use in a well-ventilated area. None of the Swellegant products will hurt your skin, but you will want to wash your hands after using them. If you are prone to sensitive skin, we would recommend wearing latex or vinyl gloves. Protect your clothing as the dyes will stain. Do not ingest. For information, check out our Swellegant-Metal-Coatings-and-Patinas-Q-and-A.
