Works just like I hoped
I wasn’t trying to buy anything but a basic blender. I use it mostly to puree cooked ingredients, which it does smoothly and completely. It is easy to clean by rinsing, putting in a few drops of liquid detergent and warm water and running 15 seconds or so.

Good blender for the money!
For the money, I am quite impressed with this blender. It's large size is great for my morning smoothies. I use Auto 5 twice, to get it blended the way I like it. Clean up is very easy, since there is nothing to take apart, other than the lid. Just add about a cup of hot water and a little soap, put the lid on tight and run on speed 3 for a few seconds, then rinse thoroughly. If you do not have a tall kitchen faucet or a sprayer at your faucet, you may have a tough time doing this. My cabinets are quite low, so I keep the top and bottom separated. Comments I have seen about the lid being a pain are minimal, if you are strong and mechanically inclined, but I can see how this may be a problem for some people. The lid seals very tight, therefore it is pretty snug and requires a fair amount of force to put on properly. You definitely do not want it leaking while in use, and with the amount of power it has, this can very easily happen, especially with hot liquids. Also, it is pretty quiet, since the driving mechanisms are rubber and plastic.Update 9/17/16: I was making my morning smoothie, with the Auto 5 button. As soon as it tried to start blending, I heard a strange noise and then nothing. I tried unplugging it for twenty minutes, as it says to do in the manual, but still nothing. Called the manufacturer and they offered to send me another one immediately and also gave me a return label to send back the broken one so that they can see what happened to it. If is was able to do it over, I may have returned it and upgraded to something more substantial and with manual controls.

Smoothest smoothies I have ever had
After my awful Ninja blender (see my review), it is so nice to have a smoothie that is smooth in a minute of unattended blending rather than 5 minutes of changing the blending speed with the Ninja. My takeaway is this: For food preparation, trust reviews from America's Test Kitchen over Consumer Reports. Consumer Reports rated my old (free to good home) Ninja blender very highly because of the strength of its motor and its durability. Those things are nice, but not paramount for food preparation. America's Test Kitchen reviews gadgets based on the food products they (help) produce.

I like it BUT...MUST READ FAIR REVIEW
The media could not be loaded. Purchased this blender a few weeks ago, and compared to the others that I've had this one is one of the most quiet one I've ever owned. Needless to say, there are a few flaws that are major to me, however if they can improve on those flaws it can be one of the BEST blenders I have ever owned. I will be submitting pictures and a video to demonstrate what I have mentioned above. Also, I feel I am a pretty fair reviewer so hopefully my review will help others decide on their purchase.Pros: Powerful motor and not as loud as mostVortex is unusual, but you can see the power in it!Light weight jar (made of plastic) cleans very easy, EASY GRIPBase is sturdy and buttons very easy to usePulse buttonThick cord for extra long durability (also longer than most blender cords)Spout is angled just right for easy pouring (not messy)Blades are sharp and durableBlends is seconds, i'm very impressedRubber bottom for less/no slippingCons: Lid very hard to close (you have to make sure it snaps all they way around!)Once the lid is snapped, very hard to take offBase is taller than most, with jar attached may not fit under kitchen counterIn spite of the con's, I will just have to be more careful when putting on the lid, (that's why I use a old rag in case any liquid seeps out). For the most part, if Black and Decker cares to improve this model, it would be a super great investment for me as I have a food catering business that keeps me using and buying these products. Again, IMPROVE the lid and this will be a great product!Updated: Used the small personal size 20 oz jar and it was great for blending a small amount of salsa! I do find it very useful. I also used the automatic button- and it was nice how it blends, then stops, and blends again on it's own - once it determines it's blended enough then it stops. That was really nice.

Would not recommend!
Brown liquid coming from base and the blender is making a terrible racket. I'm only making smoothies with it and haven't changed anything I do or put into it. I've only owned this blender or approx. 1 year. Purchased June, 2017. I see another reviewer who's had the same issue!UPDATE 8/9/18: I contacted the seller (Spectrum Home Appliances) via email. They responded within 48 hours to let me know this product was within the 3 year warranty period and they are sending me a replacement free of charge. I consider this to be excellent customer service! If anyone else has problems, reach out to: Consumer Service Department at 1-800-231-9786 OR [email protected]

Stuck in rust/won't work after a few uses.
At first, I was very impressed by the performance, but, after a few months the blades are struck in rust and trust me I really liked this blender so I was always careful to dry it thoroughly. I only used it a couple of times, so I guess I must have paid about 10$ per use. Do not buy unless you intend to put the thing under a hair dryer after each use because that's the only thing I didn't do. The blades are stainless, but not the assembly, go figure. Very disappointed.I tried to disassemble it but it seems you would need special tools since the drive gear underneat is a soft plastic which I would surely destroy with ordinary pliers.*** Update ***Okay, maybe I was a bit quick with my review, I contacted customer support and they seem ready to help me out. So, maybe I just had a defective unit, I'm gonna wait and see how they are going to handle this then I'll re-update this review so you'll know what kind of customer experience to expect. Just for the record I would have giving 5 stars if it was still working.
