A Way Of Being

A classic in human development
Carl Rogers, one of the fathers of humanistic psychology, had a deep respect for the human being - not as something that had to be fixed or even improved, but could be the very best by simply being oneself. His trust in human nature had a great impact on me. Besides other things he encouraged me to be non-judgmental about my feelings and to think for myself - to exercise free choice in everything I did. Don't make this your first Rogers reading experience.
I wanted to hear about Rogers' theories and methods, technically. This reads more like a self-centered diary by a college freshman. Really disappointing.

It is a nice read
When I first purchased the book, I was worried that I would not understand it well given the fact that it was my first time Rogers. But it was OK, and the book is not only about his theory in psychotherapy, but also about his opinions and musings in other areas of life. It is a nice read. Sometimes, because he also includes information from older writings, it feels like a disconnected reading from chapter to chapter, but again, the contents is easy and worth trying. This gives the reader a chance to find out something about Rogers as a person - about his life, and about his view on different matters of the world.

Good history and evolution of psychology.
I thought this book might be a bit dry, but it is rolling right along. Lots of mentions of other scientists and psychologists to add to the reading list.

A fine piece of writing by CR
A fine piece of writing by CR. In it he simply and powerfully communicates himself to the reader. A way of being, his way of being, laid out clearly and broadly. From that we are free to accept and take or leave what we want. I wish I had found him and his work when I was an adolescent. I've always found the person centred idea of how to usefully approach and if relevant support another person, a good compass to live by; this very accessible, little book, with its very digestible and coherent sections, places that rather proven idea in the context of pretty much all of life's aspects. At times his example, or exemplifying of this his way of being, is rather over-whelming: even then one's self-defensive reaction remains helpful; reflexively illuminating what might play out for another when they are approached in a person-centred manner.

Inspiring
Very thought provoking and daring. I absolutely love it. I could read it many times over ending it with the same feeling of excitement knowing that I am part of the paradigm shift. Inspired by the work carried out by large groups. A game changer.
