A Good Reading Experience! Worth your time and money!
Got the book from the local library. Attracted by the title. Took it for light reading, but never thought that it would be so gripping, (and sometimes so heart wrenching)above . In addition to a beautiful story, it gave a good insight into the rural life of Sri lanka, and the unfortunate civil war between the Tamils & Simhalese. And above all, in all the man-made calamities, the subtle or not so subtle presence of God can be discerned showing the correct path. And the book gives out hope in the goodness of people. A good read!

I love saree & the name caught my attention
BOOK NAME - SareeAUTHOR - Su DharamapalaPUBLICATION - Simon & Schuster UKPAGES - 580COST - Rs 350/-TYPE - PaperbackRATING - 4.5/5I bought this book at the Delhi Airport just before boarding the flight back home. I love saree & the name caught my attention. I assumed this book to have 6 stories not related to each other with saree as the common element. But, each story is connected & so beautifully.Covering a span of 20 years, the author takes you through an amazing journey of love, hatred, jealousy, kindness - every emotion you can experience. Its also a great window to the political history of SriLanka & Tamil Nadu. Once you reach the 3rd story, the connection of the characters starts to form. The language used is easily relatable with few tamil, sinhalese & hindi words. I loved reading it 😊

Each drape, every pleat, resonates within the stories told.
This book was a gift from my late husband and the stories did not disappoint. Each story linking into one another. It reminded me of the 1964 movie “The Yellow Rolls Royce”. Very poignant, endearing and emotive. The journey of a saree from its silk creation, looms to weaving and adornment is inspired. I do hope Su Dharmapala continues to write more. I have just ordered “The Wedding Season”...

Rich and Textured
I found this book impossible to put down. It's a series of inter-related shorter stories that takes us on a luscious journey from village life in Sri Lanka in 1981' through the horror of civil war, to the slums and cities of India, then to suburban Melbourne. The characters are exotic and yet accessible, and the writing evocative. Prepare yourself with a few great curries and some incense and immerse yourself in Saree.
