A History of German politics of 1918-1933 . Is it relevant to the USA today?
A history of politics in Germany 1918-1933 ending in a Hitler dominated government.I think it covers the period well. I confess I am not an expert on this period. Does this have any relevance to the USA today? I would say only in the broadest terms. Political shenanigans, and propaganda happen in every country. Autocrats and wannabes play from the same playbook. The playing field is unique. The US is a very well established democracy. It has little or no Communist or even Socialist sector of voters. The US did not suffer defeat n a World War. It did not have to pay the consequences of that. It has not had to deal with recent depression level unemployment and huge inflation of the currency. The RWing in the US is more concerned with economic dominance and guarding extreme capitalism. Militarism is not a big factor in U S politics. The details of fascism's rise in Germany were due to distinctly German factors. US fascism is driven by certain unique factors in the US. Can it happen in the US? Perhaps.I just dont see the correlation between Nazi Germany and events today in the USA. The similar factors in both countries are only a few.The factors in both countries are pretty unique.White power in the US likes to think it is a major factor like the NAZIS were, but that brand of extremism is reserved for nuts and extremists. I think Donald Trump is more a reflection of dissatisfaction with the alternatives of a two party system needing change.Obama, Sanders and Trump were all change choices. Hillary and the old line GOP were not.

A lot of what, but very little how
Hett is a great writer, sadly this wonderfully spun tale was a lost opportunity. Like the baffled aristocrats Hett focuses on in the book, he too seems to ignore the central lesson of the rise of ALL dictatorships.....ECONOMICS.
