In 1958, a successful businessman named Robert Monroe began to have experiences that drastically altered his life. Unpredictably, and without his willing it, Monroe found himself leaving his physical body to travel via a "second body" to locales far removed from the physical and spiritual realities of his life. He was inhabiting a place unbounded by life or death. Monroe recorded these experiences in two best-selling, landmark books, Journeys Out of the Body and Far Journeys . Ultimate Journey , his final and career-defining work, takes us further than we thought possible - and reveals to us what it all means. Ultimate Journey charts that area which lies "over the edge," beyond the limits of the physical world. It presents us with a map of the "interstate" - the route that opens to us when we leave our physical lives, with their entry and exit ramps, their signposts and their hazards. It also tells us how Monroe found the route and travelled it, and uncovered the reason and the purpose of this pioneering expedition. It is a journey that reveals basic truths about the meaning and purpose of life - and of what lies beyond. After six hardcover printings, the trade paperback edition of Ultimate Journey , will offer an even wider range of readers this exhilarating reading experience, the masterwork of one of the most daring and original thinkers and explorers of our time. Review: Not quality advertised by vendor. - Updated review. Book itself is groundbreaking. At first I was disappointed at "Excellent" quality used book with less than pristine dust jacket & aged paper on top of closed book. But it is a First Edition of book now in 44th printing. Book is otherwise in fine condition & I'm very happy to own this copy. Review: If you made it this far... - If you read the other two you might as well keep going. You won't be disappointed.

A great read.
Wow. Just finished reading this series. I agree that of the three books, this is the most accessible. Beautifully written and put me in mind of bardos in The Tibetan Book of the Dead. A great read. I’ll keep this book for a long time.

Bob's Personal Journey (may not be yours)
I have completed all of the programs at Monroe Institute and was fortunate enough to meet Bob personally. This is his description of his own adventure, intensely personal, while he himself was struggling with the process. He gave words to an experience which is barely describable at all, and his was my inspiration for my own journeys beyond the body. This is not an instructional manual. Better use Mastering Astral Projection by Robert Bruce and Brian Mercer (which includes a CD of binaural beats just like at TMI) or Bill Buhlman's several books. I love this book because I can almost hear Bob saying those things, his inspiration, and his guidance. Too bad TMI ain't what it used to be. Bob, we really need your words even today (perhaps Carol should consider reading it). "There is only The Plan."

Robert Monroe's Second Book on OBEs
In his second book, Robert Monroe continues to describe his personal experiences with Out-Of-Body travel. By the time he wrote this book, Mr. Monroe had traveled out-of-body so often that he is able to offer almost a "map" of the astral world and it's various levels and inhabitants. Mr. Monroe describes his fascinating encounters with a number of nonphysical beings, human and otherwise. He does not present himself as a religious person, but rather as a deeply curious individual in search of answers to questions as old as time. He attempts to make sense of what happens to us after we die and equally important, why we are here in the first place. The answers to these questions turn out to be complex and anyone looking for a simple explanation based on their own religious beliefs or upbringing may be disappointed, if not disturbed. Also, by this time, he had established much of his research techniques using hemi-sync, which he describes in some detail in the book. This book is incredibly interesting and enlightening. My only complaint with the book is that Monroe often does not offer enough explanation or detail and left me with many unanswered questions. Each of Monroe's books is riveting on its own terms. However, I found that by reading the three books in order I was better able to follow Monroe's evolving understanding of the "other side".

One of the greatest books I’ve ever read
I wish I could have met this man. I began having OBE’s about 8 years before I read the journeys trilogy. When he talked about the out of body simulations my head nearly popped off. I’ve had a few of those and never found them described in detail anywhere else. This is the greatest book and most profound trilogy on personal spiritual exploration and out of body travel ever written. Period. Such a gem and so incredible to be experienced outside the traditional contexts of yoga and meditation. A true original work. Thank you Bob. These 3 books changed my life and made me finally enquire “what is under the hood” in an OBE. What transports the astral body or consciousness from one dimension to another?

This is a must-read for all those who are seeking answers.
If you can read only one of Robert Monroe's 3 books ("Journeys Out of the Body," "Far Journeys" and "Ultimate Journey"), "Ultimate Journey" is the one to read. Monroe's books chronicle his amazing learning experiences as his ability to travel out of the body develops and his capability to remember and to put these odysseys into words increases. Without laboring over material covered in the first two books, Monroe sums up his earlier adventures and then writes about his most recent and significant discoveries on this, his spiritual journey to understanding. If you have ever wondered if there is a God, why the Bible says that God is Love and in another place, shows God to be a vengeful being who orders the killing of many people, "Ultimate Journey" and the lessons taught to Monroe in his out-of-body state will help to clear up these questions. To say that "Ultimate Journey" will give you a whole new perspective on life, death and what lies beyond is an understatement. This is a must-read for those who are seeking answers! And, if at all possible, read all 3 books in order. "Far Journeys" is definately the most difficult to read, since much of it reflects Monroe's efforts to translate non-verbal communications from non-humans into English. But the information in that book is voluminous and well worth the effort to read it. Happy reading, fellow seekers!

A wonderful trilogy of books. Trust me, this is money well spent.
The three books by Robert A. Monroe — Journeys Out of the Body, Far Journeys, and Ultimate Journey — are some of the most profound works I have learned from in my life. I have no way of personally verifying their claims, as I have not yet experienced an out-of-body state myself, but I find the subject deeply compelling. The accounts feel sincere, and many others also report experiences that appear to support the process he describes. Reading them has left me with a sense of humility, as though I am an infant in spiritual terms. At the same time, they have given me a deep feeling of gratitude that I don’t think I could have reached in quite the same way through other material. Robert A. Monroe and those involved in his work, including his wife Nancy, seem to have contributed something meaningful to the wider exploration of human consciousness. I believe that readers who approach these books with an open mind may find themselves challenged and potentially enriched by them. For me, works like these offer value to those interested in spiritual questions beyond conventional frameworks. I don’t see this as being in opposition to empirical science, but rather as something that sits alongside it. There are also various studies and references that touch on similar experiences, and the Monroe Institute is often mentioned as a significant contributor in this area. I do wish I could experience it for myself, though it feels as if life may be taking me in a different direction for now. I suppose one day I'll be skipping around KT-95 like Ident BB, playing games. Until then I live out my life as this human. Even if you're not a believer in this type of stuff, you would be at a sorry loss not to read all three books. I hope I get to thank him one day. But I know he knows that now. Thanks Robert.
