ACH Ballistic Helmet Upgrade System

Having asked if this was in fact the kit needed to upgrade my desert-storm era PASGT helmet and receiving two different answers, I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is in fact, not only the correct kit, but a supremely comfortable one as well. the pads are cushy, and yet firm enough to make me believe that when properly installed, they will definitely take a couple of knocks and keep your head intact.Installation was easy enough (did seem to lose a screw and nut, keep your old ones just in case) and though it took a few minutes to get the pads in place, the customization is a great improvement over the old electric-chair band. My PASGT is a small, and I could probably use a medium, but by leaving out some pads and rearranging the others, this helmet fits like a charm.

I'll admit I was a bit unsure of ordering this product mostly because of it's cheap price. Most upgrade systems I've seen are double or triple the price. However when it arrived I was very suprised at how good a quality it was. I compared it to a kit used by a local survival store to up grade helmets. ( I know the owner and saw what he pays for his kits) the kits they use are almost a hundred bucks each cost. The only difference I saw looks wise was the stores kits had a government/ military stock # on them and different manufactures name. Otherwise the kit I bout seemed to be of a better quality than theirs. I am planning to order a couple more kits to upgrade the other helmets I have in the next day or two. I highly recommend the product. Only bad thing about the kit was the instructions on placing the velcro pads could have been a little better.

This kit has everything you need to upgrade your old PASGT or ACH/MICH. It comes with all the hardware you need, even the bolt to terminate the hole for the NVG mount. The only thing is if you are using it for a ACH/MICH helmet, the band to attach your helmet cover needs to be stitched together at the end because the ACH/MICH helmets to not have 6th hole in the back like the PASGT does. I had ordered the OEM OD chin strap as well not realizing this kit comes with a Skydex brand chin strap and hardware. The military OD chin strap does feel a little more comfortable but I decided to use the one in the kit because it was black. All in all I am very pleased with the product and the shipping was right on schedule. I sure am glad I spent the extra $10.00 to get the Skydex over the OEM pads because they sure do feel good on your noodle noggin.

I installed this in my helmet to replace the old style. It was difficult to arrange the pads in a configuration that was both comfortable and sat properly on my head. When I configure like the diagrams, the helmet will not fit correctly as the pads are too thick to allow my head to fit all the way in. I came up with a configuration that works pretty good though, but had to add padding across the brow. The material is not as soft as I had hoped and I think that it might be a problem but we will see.I have yet to wear it for an extended time or with MOPP gear. I am hoping that it will be at least as comfortable before.

I've got an extra small head, so I had to pair this with the helmet spacers/fit kit, then this made my helmet fit perfectly.Great large, strong velcrosUsed in conjunction with a helmet spacers fit kit to pad my Stormtrooper helmet. Much more comfortable than hard hat suspension not to mention the easy removal and washing.

The suspension in my first gen Kevlar was killing me. I had to change it to something else and this did the trick. I guess my head is big so I had to turn some of the pads sideways like the instructions said to make a good fit. This kit combined with the LWH Gentex Helmet Chin Strap made a huge difference. My only recommendation is how to position the velcro pads. There are not enough to cover every possible position so I recommend you figure out the best positioning first. Instead of putting them all in at once, first put in your top and front velcro and cushions. Then put on the helmet and play around with the rest of the cushions to find the most comfortable postions. Then you will know where the rest of the velcro pads should go. Now my Kevlar feels like a football helmet. Well done.

It's a great, comfortable system. Only gripe I have is that the harness doesn't seem to fit straight... I'm examining whether it's an installation issue of a quality thing. If I can update the rating later I will.
