War.. War never changes.
Another great read. The start of the No Mans Land saga that has been building since Batman: Contagion. With Gotham now officially ousted by the USA Gotham is a lawless disaster zone filled with the last remnants of Gotham City including all our favourite lunatics. After Bruce Waynes humiliating defeat in Batman: Road to No Mans Land, Batman has also been missing from the lawless Gotham for months leaving the desperate and under equipped Police force to try and retake Gotham from the eruption of turf wars.Fantastically Written with Plenty of cameos. Consisting of a variety of stories all set during the early days of No Mans Land as readers we get to see the residents of Gotham and how they have adapted to No Mans Land. This makes an interesting and character driven book which also raises and answers many questions. Why doesn't Superman just fly in and sort everything out? How do you impose law and order in a place with no rules or legal system? these questions and more are answered in the book and demonstrates to us the best and worst of humanity in times of crisis. My favourite story revolves around Scarecrow who has taken sanctuary in a church along with a vast number of vagrants all being led by a priest. The story demonstrates just how dangerous Scarecrow is, seeing as he has no access to fear gas or resources he relies on psychology and manipulation to cause fear around him, using the one thing that has bought all these people together against them, religion. A fantastic story and brilliantly written. There are a few weaker stories, The Azrael issues didn't seem as well structured or as coherent as the other cross over titles, but it was fun to see Azrael Vs Joker again. The art is also lacking in a couple of the issues of Azrael as well. But Joker is drawn and written really well. The first of four volumes and definitely a strong start, a character driven piece that has been built up too through Batman: Contagion, Batman: Legacy, Batman: Cataclysm and Batman: Road to No Mans Land. It also feels a little bit like the Fallout game series.. Just need Batman to start using bottle caps and calling his comms gear a pip boy. This book contains Batman: No Mans Land #1, Batman: Shadow of the Bat #83 - #86, Batman #563 - #566, Detective Comics #730 - #733, Azrael: Agent of the Bat #51 - #55, Batman: Legens of the Dark Knight #117 - #118, Batman Chronicles #16

Better than I thought it would be
Better than I thought it would be. The book collects a lot of stories and all in order so it makes sense, unlike the new 52 books. Some of the art work is brilliant, and then as always some are terrible, can't see what's going on.

One of the best Batman storylines
This epic Batman storyline, along with the Knightfall storyline, forms the basis of Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. If that does not say enough about the book, then nothing else will. The events take place after the Cataclysm that turns Gotham into a wasteland, with the US government declaring it to be a no-man's land, with every man to fend for himself. Almost all major Batman characters make an appearance in this epic storyline. Even if we are not to consider it among the haloed list of the best Batman comics, this would still be rather epic, establishing Batman as the brawling superhero rather than a pacific one.
