Made in China
I had trouble deciding between this drill and the Bosch Bulldog Extreme 1". The Bosch has more power, higher RPM, is rated for a higher drill capacity, has awesome customer ratings, and currently costs about $150 less than this Hilti. The only down side to the Bosch is that it is made in Mexico. (There is also a problem with the Bosch's "hammer only" setting for chiseling, but the Hilti does not have this feature) In the end I decided that quality German craftsmanship was worth paying extra for, so you can imagine my disappointment when the Hilti arrived and I saw "Made in China" on the name plate. I did take it out of the box and plug it in. Seemed to run smoothly and spin true. All the features appeared to work nicely, but I just could not justify the extra expense to purchase something with inferior specs when it was made in China, so I sent it back. Fortunately, the Amazon vendor that I purchased it from, Helton Tool, has remarkable customer service and was completely willing to take it back and refund my money. I am giving this product a three star rating, but it might be a great tool. On the other hand I have lost a lot of money buying other expensive name brand tools that, to my surprise, are now being made in China and which have fallen apart on me. I just cannot afford to take that risk anymore.
