Tree and Shrub Gardening for Minnesota and Wisconsin

I am amazed how the forest here in WI is so different from Minnesota where I moved from. This book certainly helps identify the various trees, shrubs and flowers found here in this state. Wonderful resource book that I am so glad to have purchased. Full color identification pictures and guides that are so very helpful. Especially seeing that the trees were in full bloom when we viewed the property and didn't move in until well after fall when all the leaves came off the trees making identification much more difficult!

Since we live in the South, but are building a cabin in Northern Wisconsin, we were at a loss for landscape ideas. General gardening books and catalogs do not specify a broad range of trees and shrubs to successfully grow in this climate. Rather than giving the reader generalized information about a specimen, this author provides detailed facts about the necessary soil, water, sunshine, and other care. Included are types of problems including temperature, susceptibility for diseases, insects, fungi, and any other difficulties the specimen may attract. In addition, ideas for placement and the positive aspects of each item are detailed. The pictures and clear prose make this a must for even the practiced gardener.

Helpful to have a book without all the wrong zone plants in it

My husband, a avid gardener, borrowed this book from the library and just loved it.....so don't tell, this book will be under the Christmas tree this year!

This is one of a series of books that are very useful for growing in Minnesota - it obviously gets VERY cold here so it's perfect to have books that apply to our climate.

Really a good book for this area. I have only read about half of it but will useit for my needs.

Great book for local area. I take it with me whenever I go to buy trees and shrubs for our Minnesotan home.
