A real treasure for your collection
Fabulous liner notes that take you way back to that era! You can really hear the Everly's voices mature from 1950s to the 1970s. They went from adolescent voices to more adult ones, starting specifically from 1960 to 1964. Phil's solo songs really captured my heart. Phil's solos seem more punctuated with passion. Such a sweet and innocent voice. Nice to hear him sing without Don, who dominated the duos songs, even by singing lead on Phil's song compositions. In the early recordings on this CD, you can really hear Don's very charming twang, which is really high pitched. Very even representation for each of the Brothers, which is in itself rare as we usually find more songs sung by Don than Phil. This CD is even better than I anticipated. I already ordered the companion CD "Too Good To Be True." These early recordings are real gems!

It's Everly, so it will always get 5 stars from me
I've got all the recordings I want or need in my collection at this point. Not being a fan of the old country-western twang and story-telling of sad love gone wrong music this cd is not one I'll listen to often, but am glad to have as part of their historical path through their musical careers. These are from the days when "care" was sung as "keer" by the brothers, which always makes me chuckle and the very young, high-pitched and nasal-heavy voices singing. At the time they came on the scene they were so different that none of that was noticed, of course. I completely enjoy being taken back to those early years by listening to the early recordings now and then. This is a great cd for those who don't want to invest in the big sets where these demos are generally found, but would like to have a few of the early examples of this duo as they were in their earliest years of fame.

Everly Demos Heartbreakingly Clear
Hearing this voice-and-guitar demos by the Everlys is just heartbreaking. Their singing--often alone, only a few tracks have themvoicing together--reveal what great musicians they were. But the real point of the album for me is the force and purity of their songwriting. As Bob Dylan said, 'we owe these guys everything'. The sophistication in their musicianship is peerless. There willnever be another like them. And this disc is the Everlys at their most unadorned. Classic.

Simple and insightful.
I like this for it's simplicity, also. If you are an EB collector, this gives you the early sound, the simple sound, the innocent sound . It's great.

primarily for completists
A few great duets with sparse or no accompaniment, a few interesting solo numbers, but a bunch of weak solo material as well. The singing is flawless, as always, sound quality is excellent, but not their best collection. My taste prefers their early harmonies.
