Review: Exactly what I've been looking for..... - This book will be perfect for my 9 yr old and I to use as we discuss her next few years. It is so clear and written at a level she will surely understand. I have read MANY MANY books but they all mesh this topic in along with topics which are too old for a 9 yr old. However three of her friends have already started so she needs to be informed now. As everyone has mentioned the text and drawings are very clear. I was afraid I would have to sketch things out for her - but not now since it's all here. The more teenage topic is quickly referenced on two separate pages in this book - but if she asks I will just say it's for a later discussion. I will be using this book along with Nancy Rue's "The Body Book, It's a God Thing". Both of these books are very well suited for a 9 yr old. I passed on "The Care and Keeping of You" and "Ready, Set, Grow" for adding in too much information that young girls don't need at ages 9 or 10. Review: Period: a girls guide - I enjoyed reading this book it was informative and written in simple easy to understand style. My 10 year old daughter also liked the book because it was uncomplicated and they broke down this very complex period of life into words and illustrations that she could both relate to and understand. We both read the book together which assisted in our mother/daughter relationship as it was something we could share. I also like the fact that the book looked beyond periods and talked about overall wellness and health of the pre-teen. I would encourage any mother with a child about to enter puberty to purchase this book for their pre-teen. Wanjie

Perfect book for my daughter
This book was perfect to introduce changes in the body to my 9.5 year old daughter. It was very carefully written for a young audience/reader and it explained everything in a way she could understand. What I enjoyed most about it is that sex was not mentioned, so it was very appropriate. I recommend this book to all parents who want to discuss hormonal and puberty changes with their daughters.

Still a Great Book
I like it. I do miss the old line drawings, but maybe that's not a popular opinion! Lol! It's nice to share a book with my 9 year old that I read at about the same age. I could do without the links to further sex ed via Planned Parenthood in the back, but we just ignore that part and teach our family's values in that regard. Still a great book for kids with questions about puberty and their changing bodies. I love the positive, straightforward tone.

Great Book for Girls and this Subject
This book was perfect to give my daughter to help her understand the changes that are happening to her body. She has asked questions about his subject in the past but still wasn't sure how to ask some of them so I felt this book would be help to her and it was. She read it in a day and soon after she was asking questions and talking about this subject openly with me. I highly recommend it...especially since it doesn't approach sex-ed like the other books I researched do.

Good book for preteens
This is a wonderful book. Tells a girl everything she needs to know without going into the sex stuff. (There are great books for that later) I gave this to my niece and she went right into her room shut the door and read it. Same thing happened when I gave it to the 12 year old daughter of a friend.

Perfect 1st book
I purchased this book for my daughter who is turning 9 next week and she has begun to go through some confusing physical changes. Where as she is very open she still has lots of questions. This book is perfect for her to begin with. Best part is it doesn't mention sex just about body changes and how to cope. Great 1st book!!

Happy to get the book but bummed about the bent cover...
I purchased this book for my 10 year old daughter - I remembered reading it myself when I was probably her age. I was so happy I was able to get a copy - but bummed out a bit when I opened the box it came in - the back cover was bent a bit. I won't be returning it. It's okay, we'll read it at home, we'll probably even bend a few pages ourselves over time. It is bent enough, though, that I wouldn't be comfortable giving it as a gift or anything like that. We have Prime and we got the book really quick.

Good read for pre-pub daughter
Daughter loved this- read it in one sitting on a Sunday morning sat in mums bed. Asked questions and felt at east. Book was good and I could add more biological things where needed. Good level without being too in her face

Great, Straight-forward Book
Really good for a young girl preparing for her first period. Age-appropriate and uncomplicated. I would recommend to all mums and grandmothers and aunts to give to their girls. Knowledge is power, and it takes the fear out of it.
