This Present Darkness

It's definitely worth the read
I honestly haven't read a lot of Christian fantasy yet, outside of classics like Narnia, but this was a good book to get started with. It's a solid story with a great plot. Gets a little cheesy at moments, but nothing that I haven't seen in real life. It's got Angels and Demons, Swords and action and it takes a lot of interesting turns. I will be reading the next one and looking for more of Frank Peretti's works.

Beautiful, Gripping Story
Although this is out of my usual genre, I loved this story. For someone who’s struggled with faith and belief, I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping story of the battle between good and evil. The characters are memorable and stick with you even after putting the book down. The way the hosts of heaven and the demons interacted with the people of Ashton was astounding and several times I found myself on the edge of my seat and holding my breath to find out just who would win out in the end. I look forward to reading the sequel in time!

Should be required reading for Christians
After the Bible, I'm not sure I've found a more important book in my thirty years in the faith. While not literal, this story presents a great picture of spiritual warfare and helps us be on our guard. Plus Frank Peretti writes brilliantly.

Best Book Ever
I have read this book many, many times and it never gets old. Frank P has an amazing gift of bringing a story to life. Honestly this book is just as relevant today, if not more, then when it was written! I would highly recommend this book to one and all!!

Enjoyed the pace and content. There were times when the sense of a lurking evil were relatable to our present day.
Looking forward to the next book. I am curious if the setting and characters remain the same, or are we heading to Brazil.

spiritual warfare 101
I was introduced to this book and it’s second over a decade ago and it changed my life. I recommend it to anyone who is ready to understand spiritual warfare. Thank you for your contribution Frank!

Spiritual Warfare is something the saints need to take seriously
Many today refuse to think about spiritual warfare- sometimes fiction can open our eyes to the need to be in prayer at all times. This book is one of those fictional masterpieces that teach this need well!

The battle between good and evil forces
This book is almost like reading from today’s news. There are unseen forces that are fighting each other for control of this world.

A timeless classic of good v evil
This is one of those books that, although it starts interesting, it starts slowly. Then it builds and builds into a tense crescendo that explodes towards the end. I loved the pace, the steady build had me on the end of my seat, by the time I was two-thirds of the way through nothing was going to make me put the book down! The characters are very real, and our main protagonists are thoroughly lovable, whereas the antagonists are easy to ‘boo’ at.Although published in 2003 this book hasn’t aged. In my opinion it is quite a classic thriller.I was captivated by the Angels and Demons that fight over the town and the people. I really enjoyed the way the people (with a couple of rare exceptions) never saw the spiritual warfare going on all around them. I was completely emotional at the end when the town’s believers rally together for prayer. What an image! This is well written and very biblically correct. I can’t recommend it enough, this is simply a fantastic read.

A good read
I first read this book in the 90s. Apart from some description that's dated (references to faxes and lack of IT etc), the core of this story clearly remains relevant today. Who knows exactly what response in the spiritual realm occurs in response to our actions? This story provides very imaginative possibilities that, indirectly, challenge readers to be more mindful of their (and other's) actions and prayer-life! I'm now looking forward to re-read the other 2 books in this series .....

SIMPLY GENIUS
I AM ONLY JUST OVER HALF WAY THROUGH THIS BOOK. AFTER BUYING THE PAPERBACK FOR MY WIFE I BOUGHT THE KINDLE VERSION FOR MYSELF. CAN BARELY PUT IT DOWN. I TOOK IT ON HOLIDAY ON A SHORT CRUISE...WAS ALWAYS VANISHING TO THE SHIPS LIBRARY TO SIT QUIETLY AND READ PERETTI. WISH I COULD WRITE LIKE THIS: Bob Mitchell: Author of "Satan's Seed".

Takeover bid for a small unsuspecting town.
I read this tale of angels and demons many years ago. On rereading I first thought it was rather outdated but soon found it gripping me as I couldn't remember how it worked out. On an earthly level it was a story of manipulation and intimidation by big business men and those in their pay. A good intriguing read.

A graphic and vital message of spiritual warfare and how to handle it
I am reading this for the second time. High powered, action-packed book with a powerful message of what is happening in the world today. It makes sense of the influence of the New Age on the church and in the world in general. It also very clearly and wonderfully shows the incredible power of prayer
