brought this player as its been modified to play all regions and does not disappoint

I bought a Samsung DVD player after reading reviews suggesting it was Multi Region but when a put a blue ray disc in it the player refused to play it saying it was dirty, then I placed a Region 1 disc in it and it spat it out saying the codes didn't match and after exchanging e-mails with the seller and phoning Samsung UK I learned the player I bought was not Multi Region after all and it was more expensive than this Sony player that I am writing this review about, I was absolutely jumping and spitting and sent it packing back to the seller. I'm not paying £490 quid for a DVD player that is not Multi Region, so I bought this Sony UBP-X800M2 only slightly cheaper at 450 of our British pounds but when I inserted the discs mentioned earlier including the one the Samsung player claimed was dirty and thus unplayable I sat there waiting for the disc to start skipping, sticking or jumping but it didn't, there was nothing wrong with the disc at all. I bought the player mainly to watch 3D films and when I watched one the colours in some scenes were a bit too bright but that is not too much of a problem the Sony is still worth 5 stars because it is still so much better than the more expensive Samsung. I posed a question on Amazon regarding wether or not I needed a Bluetooth TV to watch movies late at night without anyone in my house losing any sleep using Bluetooth headphones and the respondents all answered yes but they were all wrong, you do NOT need a Bluetooth TV, I bought a pair of Bluetooth headphones and they work just fine. And set up is an absolute dolly. My one and only real gripe is it does not have a display when in operation which I do miss.

Picture quality is great. Fast response. Integrated USB port supports audio/video and image content of different formats.

No complains about image or sound quality, or general performance although I have very limited basis for comparisons. Switching among BD zones not labelled on the remote (as a late third-party add-on to the basic configuration). It seems that TV has to be on even if just listening to the music (probably because there is no display on the unit itself). The remote highlights Netflix congruency and thus ignores other alternatives (Amazon Prime, Apple TV, etc) which may seem as an unfair marketing practice.

Very good player. Plays all regions and formats without any problems including Criterium collection and SACD. The reason for not giving 5 stars is that it lacks a display, but rather uses a TV connected to the system as the display.

I bought this player to replace an any region Blu-ray, which was starting to play up. Initially, while Blu-rays played as expected, it had problems with DVDs. After contacting the supplier and describing the fault (intermittent picture and sound with DVDs) they managed to identify the problem as a faulty HDMI cable. They then sent me a replacement cable by next day delivery and since then, the unit has worked perfectly.

There's nothing to dislike about this multi-region Blu-ray/DVD player. I'm so glad I purchased it to go with my new Sony 4K 75 inch TV. It's the perfect companion to my TV. Even plain old DVDs look amazing. 5 stars😎
