Night Pleasures: A Dark-Hunter Novel

I have been reading Ms Kenyon's books for a long time now. I have enjoyed them all. Keep writing I love them.

I have to start with the fact that I loved the humor in the characters. Whenever the story got too serious Kyrian or Amanda or Nick said something to lighten it up. I really appreciated that. Humor isn't used enough in these kinds of stories.*Some Spoilers*Kyrian and Amanda were great together. They had all these witty comebacks, their chemistry was hot, and the vulnerability and emotion between them was deep. While I was a little put-off by how fast they lusted on each other, their growing love was very real. I admired how the way the felt about each other was equal. It was nice to see the heroine taking as much care for her man as he does for her. I really cannot emphasize how important that was to me. Nothing is more annoying than a whining, brainless woman who is unfair to her hot, caring man. So go Amanda and all her tender feelings.Kyrian, unfortunately for me, was not as moving to read. He was definitely hot and, as I mentioned before, I LOVED his wit and humor. But his kind of male character was very typical for a guy in a vampire/romance like this - possessive, growling, and obsessed by his woman. The good part was that this only bothered me at first. He became much more than that kind of typical character. His past was horrific to read. The detail Kenyon put into it was amazing. I wanted to cry for him so many times. As I kept reading he became a real, immortal guy. I could actually see how Amanda fell in love with him.Sometimes Kyrian's and Amanda's romance did seem over the top, especially in the beginning. However, the end was the best part. All the pieces fell together and the epilogue was too sweet for words. I do love a good ending. So overall, the characters were amazing and the world building was exceptional. Kenyon puts so much detail into the mythological world so everything makes sense. I felt I got my money's worth just from that. The only reason I did not give this book five stars has simply to do with how I did not the vampire world. There IS so much in it and I found it confusing and weird. And Kyrian did not have the vampire instincts I was expecting. This has nothing to do with the quality of the writing. I just did not like the foundation for the vampires and all the other fictional creatures in this book. I'm more of a J.R. Ward fan in that regard. Still, I recommend it. I did enjoy, and I plan to get the next in the series.

Our very own blogger, Jacqie, introduced me to this author with her review of the "first" book in this series, Fantasy Lover (which happens to be a prequel to this series). The series sounded fantastic, so I knew I must try it out! And it was worth it! This book has some of the characteristics that I love in a great book series: passion, desire, great sex, and the paranormal. All rolled up in one amazing book!Amanda Deveraux is a conservative know-it-all who has had enough with dating other conservative know-it-alls. However, she does not want anything to do with what her people are...witches and vampire hunters. So she tries not to believe anything that has to do with what her people are in the hopes that it will go away. But after her twin sister ran off her last flame and she was mistaken for her twin, all that hope was lost. Instead, she woke up handcuffed to a hot stranger, and her whole life changed.I really liked Amanda, even though I felt like she pushed away who she was too much. But I think I can understand it. I can imagine that all her life she was picked on because her family was different, so as she became an adult she made it her life goal to separate herself from it. Who could ever guess that the thing she was running from the hardest will turn out to be the best thing in her life?Kyrian of Thrace is a Dark Hunter (an immortal being who gave their soul to Artemis in order to gain immortality) which is kind of like a vampire, but not as evil. And he is a good one too. And super hot and super sexy! He never thought that he would fall in love again, but then again he never knew that he would meet Amanda Deveraux. Now this little conservative is all he can think about, but nothing that he needs. But what we need and what we want are two different things.I love Kyrian!! I think he is just what makes the book everything and more that I want to read! He is sexy and sensual, but he has a sense of humor about him. Plus he works hard and cares about what he does; however, he cares about Amanda more. I just think that this book would be completely different and not nearly as good if Kyrian wasn't in it.The VerdictY'all should check this book out if you love paranormal goodies with hot guys and a great story line! Plus, there are like 20 books in the series (slight exaggeration, but there are a lot!) so you have a good many to pant over!

I have put off reading this dark Hunter series for years. I finally picked up book 1, and it wasn't quite what I expected. Little bit too much graphic torture flashback scenes for my taste and I probably will not continue with the series. Others might really enjoy it. There's good character development, a nice Romance, but too much head hopping for me.

It's been about two years since I first started this series. But even after all that time, I still remember parts of the story and know that I quite enjoyed it!!

I’ve put off for a few years getting and reading these books. Wish I hadn’t now, love led this one and can’t wait to start the next book.

初めて読むDark-Hunterシリーズ。今回のヒーロー、ギリシャ人のKyrian。ずいぶん皮肉っぽいヒーローだなーと思ってましたが、彼の過去を読んで泣きそうになりました。愛する女性に手酷く裏切られて人間不信に陥り、過去に捕われがんじがらめになっていた彼が、Amandaのような優しいヒロインに巡り会い、彼女の助けてを得て過去を乗り越え癒されていく過程がよかったです。単なるホラーやロマンス要素ばかりが強いのではなく、弱さや傷つき易い面を持ったヒーローが、不老不死なのにとても人間臭くて親しみを感じました。人間ドラマ的な部分もあって、このシリーズはまりそうです。

Enjoyable but not as great as I was hoping after reading some of the hype

ダーク・ハンターと呼ばれる、ギリシャ神話をベースにしたヴァンパイア・スレーヤー達のラブ・ストーリーの（たぶん）２作目。今回のヒーローは元ギリシャ人のキリアン。シニカルなユーモアのセンスが秀逸です。個人的には、ヴァンパイア・レスタトの次に魅力的なキャラクターだと思います。ハリウッドで映画化してくれないかなあ。ロマンスもアクションも満載。

I am loving this series!! I love how each book ties in with the last, developing a strong character base. Love it!!
