The Oblongs - The Complete Series

The Oblongs were one of the AMAZING series that came out of the Adult Swim era when they were pumping out some of the best adultish cartoons around. This series SHOULD have lasted longer. It has the craziest characters, and I love them all! They live in a valley overshadowed by the rich and snobbish, and were all raised in the chemically toxic part of town! Too bad it was ended so quickly. And although there are only about 10 episodes I could watch them over and over which is why I purchased this set. Good value too. So funny, even though the characters are pitifully deformed, each with their own special personalities. Will Ferrell voices the Dad. Fun purchase! One to own.

I don't know why the Oblongs never caught on. Will Ferrell and Jean Smart are amazing in this animated series. When this was on TV it was pretty late at night so I understand not a lot of people knew about it. If you haven't seen it before give it a try. It is very funny!

This is truly an entertaining series. Unique characters and always inappropriate. This is the classic cartoon example of a dysfunctional family in every way possible. It is definitely an experience. I love the adult swim and the series that came from it .the Oblongs are the best its a shame there was never of a follow up on themCause I Milo and Beth ( what was that thing on Beth head that looked like a dick) I amgoing to say this is a offbeat dark comedy about a family that poor, but happy ( kind of)than you learn that the mother is rich that married a torso of a man for love

Like a large amount of the reviewers, I discovered this show through adult swim on cartoon network this was of course YEARS ago when adult swim actually contained some good shows and wasn't just full of Family Guy and American Dad reruns. (but hey I guess the masses like that stuff)anywho I Instantly fell in love with the oblongs cartoon , it is very funny, very dark and just downright twisted! which of course makes the show appeal highly to those who have sadistic imaginations( me). finding the entire series on a DVD set is just heavenly. it's so nice to sit down with some episodes and watch without the hassle of commercials and the ability to pause the show to deal with minor annoyances like children.. pets... incontinent relatives...door to door sales people...spontaneous piranha attacks.. and bathroom breaks) ensures that you never have to miss a second of the show. and again no commercials which means no one except for your relatives and the IRS) trying to cheat you out of your hard earned money! for anyone who loves the show i highly recommend the book "creepy Susie" by Angus Oblong, it is a book of short stories about the main characters of the show and their origins. the book is not in publication anymore or so i was told by a Barnes and Noble book jockey) but it can be found on amazon and eBay and the like. so in conclusion, the show is great, the book is great and not having to deal with the internet or cartoon network to watch the show makes cynical commercial haters like myself VERY happy!

Was really excited to receive these until I opened the case. While the cover art and labels on the discs themselves were excellent these were obviously burned discs and they were the typical blue color of a dye layer used in burnable discs.Not sure the seller knew these were fakes so I'm not really blaming them but this was a genuine let down.

The Oblongs was a short-lived show that would probably have a longer run if put on television today. It is the story of the Oblong family, who live in the valley where all the toxic waste and sewers run from the rich houses up on the Hill and Globocide chemical plant. The people in the valley are thus deformed and every background scene shows high tension wires and an eerie yellow sky. Given the apparent realities of sick communities and irresponsible corporate behavior, the Oblongs satirizes this reality and challenges our expectations. Back in 2000, Americans were still enthusiastic about our super economy and the economic development which characterized the 1990s. A cynical show about an exploited and abused family did not make the cut. In today's world of financial meltdown and rampant corporate corruption, the underlying premise of The Oblongs is much more relevant. The show is not always a barrel of laughs, but it is nonetheless entertaining and intriguing. It features the voice talents of Will Ferrell, before he exploded, as the quadraplegic and eternally optimistic head of the Oblong clan. The special features introduce us to Angus Oblong and reveal several interesting facts about his creative process and his relationship with the show.

A great cartoon that should have stretched out as far as The Simpson's and much better than that Family Guy.The Oblongs were the first to literally put the fun in dysfunctional and if you have a black sense of humor you will LOVE this cartoon.

I have never heard of this show before so I bought it based on the cover and it didn’t really disappoint me. However…I enjoyed watching it but I don’t really care to see it twice. There are some series that I watch all over again. This is not one of them. I wouldn't say this show has that kind of magic.

I knew when I bought this item that it was not new but in good, used condition. The DVD case is made of paper and so is worn around the edges as one would expect, but the DVDs themselves are in prefect condition. I am very happy with this purchase, and was so excited to even find this series on DVD! Thank you, it is great!

I watched this when I was younger, and when I saw it here on amazon I knew I had to get the series. This was delivered one day after I ordered it! I was amazed! its off the wall! You'll get your moneys worth. I just wish there was more.
