To die for sourdough with the mystery taken out of it
I picked this book up from my local library and found myself extending the loan serveral times, until I finally caved in and bought my own copy. Every recipe I have tried so far has been a success. Some are easy enough for 'everyday' use, others are a bit more elaborate, but with Yoke's clear and easy to follow instructions instructions you are almost guaranteed success nonetheless. What I really like about this book is that it takes the mystery out of sourdough baking. And don't worry if you can't get your hands on some of the more exotic ingredients. I can't even get rye flour in my small country town but have been successfully baking a number of the breads in this book. The favourite for the adults in my household so far has been the coffee and walnut bread. I am going to try substituting coffee with strong unsweetened cocoa for a kid friendly variation. The croissants were a hit with the whole family - to die for.The only criticism I have is that the proof reading was a bit sloppy in parts, leading to a couple of slightly confusing instructions. These can be overcome with a bit if common sense though.

Four Stars
Pretty hippie and a tad too time consuming. I'll keep looking....

Best sourdough book there is!!!!!
I learned to make my own bread from this book and have been making it for years. I can highly recommend this book for anyone starting out or just experimenting with sourdough. I have gifted several copies to friends and family who love my bread and they have all been very grateful and have begun their own bread-making journies. I would give this book more stars if I could, it's the best one I've found. I love it!!!!!

A great book!
A wonderful book, must-have for all those who enjoy baking their own wholemeal breads! Yoke explained every step in detail, every recipe is foul-proof. I am so happy that I bought Sourdough.

Read Recipes Thoroughly
I just want to warn bakers to read the instructions carefully before following instructions. One example - The basic sourdough, page 65 says to preheat your oven to 455 F then allow bread to rise for 4-6 hours. Really? With oven on at that temperature? Several recipes use this same instruction.I have owned this book for a while and don’t remember where I bought it. I mainly wanted to make the buckwheat recipes. It has great looking recipes but do read carefully. I will update after I try some. But I found this quirk and thought I should alert bakers. The pictures are beautiful and breads look fabulous. Many unusual flours used like Kamut, Spelt, Sorghum and others.Just noticed that on Page 75, the baking schedule is correct for the Parisian Baguette.Success to you!

Its OK...
I have bought both of Mardewi Yoke sourdough books now and have used her ideas a lot in my weekly bread baking. I bake a lot of bread ! I am sure there are puritan sourdough bakers out there that would have a seizure if they knew that in my final dough I do add a pinch of commercial yeast just to keep things moving along a bit quicker.... which I believe does not alter the final taste or goodness to the bread that Mardewi suggests, it just makes it more manageable for those of us with more busy schedules....My two criticism of this book, is that I found Mardewi very patronising in her instructions and obviously in love with herself..... but that is only my personal opinion and certainly does not detract from what is a very good baking book on sourdough. Also those who are truly gluten intolerant maybe should not follow her recipes on apparently "gluten-free"...... if you buy this book you will see what I am getting at....

A Fermenter's Dream
I'm gluten free, so I particularly like Yoke's gf sourdoughs and can't comment on the rest of the recipes. There are some odd instructions and the quantities for most recipes are enormous, but there's virtually nothing out there like this for coeliacs, so it's a must have for anyone interested in gf 'real' bread.

Wonderful book, just not the type I need
Wonderful book, just not the type I need. The gluten free section is very small, but 3 different starters were great. I combined with another gluten free book. Wonderful baking book and would buy it for friends and family.

Love the book
This is a great book. I have both of Yoke's books and love them both. I would recommend this for any baker who is looking to move outside the standard sourdough recipes.
