Yellow Silicone Pastry Brush - Basting Brush

This is a great pastry brush! You can use it not just for pastries, but anytime you need to dab a little oil over something. I love the fact that it's very easy to clean- either in the dishwasher or by hand. Because the bristles are silicone, food does not stick to them as it would on "real" bristles. Definitely a good buy.

I purchased this brush for baking. I totally was tired of buying brushes whose bristles would shed and end up my BBQ sauce or icing. I needed something to brush a semi-thin glaze over my pound cakes, as I am in the process of starting an organic baking business. I've also used this brush to baste chicken I've baked in the oven. When glazing my cakes, the brush left these wide bristle prints in my glaze instead of a smooth looking finish. By the time the glaze dried and hardened, I could still see bristle imprints. This definitely is a basting brush more than a pastry brush to me. My search continues...

Good product, works well and is easy to clean because it's silicone. So far it's remained intact even when I gave it the 'tug test'. The last silicone pastry brush I purchased came apart and the bristle section kept falling off the handle so the first thing I did before using this one was to tug (gently) on the silicone bristle to see if it was secure. It seems to be more secure and I expect to be able to work with it for some time to come. I would suggest that manufacturers redesign their pastry brushes in such a way that the silicone bristles are firmly and permanently attached to the handle so they don't fall apart! This type of product should be a purchase that lasts a lifetime but that's just my opinion!

what I was looking for after ruining a bristle brush on too hot items

This brush is so handy for basting, putting sauce on meat, etc. My mother always brushed a thin layer of milk on the upper crust of her pies before sprinkling them with a little sugar and baking them. This brush makes it easy for me to put just enough milk on the crust without overdoing it. It's so much better than any of my fiber brushes or other plastic ones. I just wish I'd bought it earlier. (Cleaning it is easy no matter what you've used it for, because it just goes in the dishwasher.)

I have used this brush for over 5 months and love it! It does a nice job basting; the little balls at the end really do help hold butter and oil better than a traditional brush. I love that it's dishwasher safe and heat resistant up to 450 degrees.

I just cooked my first ribs on the BBQ of the summer and I used this pastry brush to spread my BBQ sauce on the ribs. It was sooo easy, I have to say that I used a spoon to spread sauce before I had this pastry brush... so the difference is major. Anyways, my ribs were a success and I love my new pastry brush!
