A remake of the controversial 1979 cult classic, I Spit on Your Grave retells the horrific tale of writer Jennifer Hills, who takes a retreat from the city to a charming cabin in the woods to start on her next book. But Jennifer s presence in the small town attracts the attention of a few morally deprived locals who set out one night to teach this city girl a lesson. They break into her cabin to scare her. However, what starts out as terrifying acts of humiliation and intimidation, quickly and uncontrollably escalates into a night of physical abuse and torturous assault. But before they can kill her, Jennifer sacrifices her broken and beaten body to a raging river that washes her away. As time passes, the men slowly stop searching for her body and try to go back to life as usual. But that isn t about to happen. Against all odds, Jennifer Hills survived her ordeal. Now, with hell bent vengeance, Jennifer s sole purpose is to turn the tables on these animals and to inflict upon them every horrifying and torturous moment they carried out on her... only much, much worse.

Brutal, Satisfying, and Grounds for Deep Discussions
The first part of the movie is a very graphic and brutal physical and sexual abuse of an innocent woman by five men. The second part of the movie is just as graphic and brutal except it is the woman taking revenge on the men that so wrongfully took advantage of her. Clearly, the vast majority of viewers will cheer for Jennifer as she gets her revenge, but from a legal perspective are her actions any different from the men's? The ending is also a little unsatisfying because it leaves the question of "Now what"? Does she hide the bodies? Does she get caught and go to prison for the rest of her life? We don't know. The fact that so many people watch movies like this and cheer for the individual who was initially wronged even though violence and murder are part of their revenge raises interesting topics of discussion about how humans really feel about punishment, revenge, the law etc. This movie is obviously not watchable by just anyone, but for those into this kind of thing you won't be disappointed.

Very dumb.
Too many criticisms to list but I'll explain my biggest criticism: unbelievable plot trying to portray itself as realistic. There's no way the four rapists are going to let her walk onto a bridge over the river so she can jump off and swim to safety. There's no way a 90 lb city girl is going to go through that ordeal and then execute perfect vengeance. If she lived then she'd go to authorities or pretend it didn't happen because it is too painful to bring up, as all victims do. But not only does she live, she uses her 90lbs of womanhood to plot and execute vengeance? She choked out that one guy with a rope and I'm certain she doesn't have the strength to do that even if the guy didn't try to fight back (which he would). She bashes a two over the head and they pass out, which wouldn't happen. Her weak upper body strength might daze him for a split second before he recovers and overpowers her. How ridiculously stupid.

Um...No
I'd of course heard of the original 1978 film of the same name. Having never seen it, I decided to watch the remake. Goodness, what a cringe-worthy mess. What happened to Jennifer is horrible, yet I did not care about her character. Nor did I care when she finally completed her only-in-the-movies revenge against the men. Sigh. Nothing interesting happened.

Movies like this are a guilty pleasure for me
Movies like this are a guilty pleasure for me. I saw the original as well. I like both, but the original did not age well. So this was kind of a pleasant surprise in that it edged out the first one in watchability. Good, not-terribly-clean fun!

A brutal exploitation film!
A brutal grind-house/exploitation rape and revenge film which is far better than the original and surprisingly well made. Definitely not for everyone since aspects of the film will come across as gratuitous with a bleak outlook of humanity to boot.Blu Ray Review (1 disc)★★☆☆☆The Revenge of Jennifer Hills: Remaking a Cult Icon (16min) - Making of featurette that focuses on the more controversial aspects of the film.Deleted Scenes (12min)Trailers and Radio spot.

Nope
According to the movie trivia, Roger Ebert used the words, “morally repugnant” in describing this movie and its predecessor. Yes, it is. It is a difficult and disturbing movie, and I found myself fast forwarding though most of it. I basically started where she jumps off the bridge, and still fast forwarded. Regardless of any "production values" it may have, I cannot find any redeeming value, and my recommendation is that you do not watch it.

Over the top gruesome exploitation film
I did not enjoyed watching this completely needless movie. I don't know what was the point of making this exploitation, revenge over the top, torturous to watch film. It is well made but the scenario is just violence for the sake of violence. Watch it at your own risk.

I Spit On Your Grave isn't enjoyable, it's mentally scarring.
I Spit On Your Grave isn't enjoyable, it's mentally scarring. Honestly, I'm not sure how to wrap my thoughts around this and cohesively write a review. Everything about this film, is just wrong. But that's the point. Does that necessarily make it a good film? Perhaps, perhaps not. A young woman stays in a remote cabin where she is terrorised and ambushed by a group of men (including the local sheriff). Presumed missing, she returns to seek justice by her own twisted methods. "Twisted" is gently describing this harrowing story. Simply put, this is disgusting. Two horrific rape scenes, elaborate torture set pieces and an eye wincing amount of gore. Clearly it was going for the shock factor, to which it succeeds. Hands down, I've not seen anything quite like this. The amount of comments I was making throughout its runtime..."seriously!? You're going to rape her again!?", "Oh she's going to do it...oh ohhhh...OHHH she did it!!" and "Revenge is a dish best served cold, even if it is a shotgun up the bum!". I'm not a huge fan of the "torture" sub-genre, I believe it is rather divisive but I can see its appeal to genre enthusiasts. However, making something shocking just so that it is memorable and intimidating doesn't make a good "film". You have to encompass every aspect. At the end of the day, it is a glorified B-Movie about revenge. I'll give credit to Sarah Butler, it cannot have been easy to film certain scenes and I thought she did pretty well. Everyone else could've been replaced and it wouldn't have made a difference. The second act was a slog, the interval where we wait for her to reappear seemed to go on forever. She then all of a sudden becomes an expert at torture, I mean some of those contraptions like the bath filled with lye were just too elaborate. Don't get me started on why she would even stay in that cabin alone anyway! Did we need a remake of the 1978 cult film? Who knows, but we've got one and it is brutally savage. Not necessarily my type of genre, but I can appreciate the fan base for these.

Intriguing
Now usually i dont go for horror moves so for something to stand out has to be special or different atleast, but i quite like this adaption of the classic revenge story. Sarah Butler acts her socks off (quite literally) and plays a young woman brutally raped by a gang of rednecks.Never seen the 70's original so cannot comment about that, but this is excellent viewing so make time and watch it.

A very good film but not for the faint-hearted
A very good film but not for the faint-hearted. I caught the tale end of it on the Horror Channel on TV late one evening and wondered what circumstances had led to the final, quite shocking, outcome. As it turns out, the earlier sequences of the film are equally shocking and now that I've watched it, constantly peering through clasped fingers, the DVD has been well and truly 'filed'.

A remake of a "Video Nasty" classic
The remake of one of the original "Video Nasties" that upset so many people in the early '80's. This is a vast improvement over the original film. It is a harrowing tale of one woman's abuse and her return to exact revenge.
