Not a bad start, could be better.
It is a good overall introduction to Laravel. Unfortunately as other comments have indicated there are more than a few errors in the examples, which occasionally caused painful experiences working through them. The other issue, which is hard to fault the author for, is that in the few months since this has been released there are already significant enough differences in the 5.0 framework vs the more current 5.1 framework. Enough to make some of the examples in this book unworkable unfortunately.

Errors in examples
If you follow along with the examples in the book, your code will not work. I had to reference online documentation and the downloadable example files in order to figure out why I was getting errors. They are either typos or outdated mistakes, but it was very frustrating trying to follow along.

Its a good starter book
Its a good starter book, It help you to start a CRUD project but if you are going to do some more complex stuff, you will need to research a lot. beside that the examples are good and it is easy to follow.

Although slightly dated, this book gives a really good introduction to how a basic MVC application can be created using Laravel 5, as well as a chapter on Eloquent ORM and testing.

but you'll have a much better idea of how Laravel works
The book is not very well written and sometimes it skips important steps in the code, making it difficult to follow. Rather read the official documentation, it'll take longer, but you'll have a much better idea of how Laravel works.

Good book to initiate study about Laravel PHP framework
Good book to initiate study about Laravel PHP framework. With this book I could to start a project from scratch in few days of reading. I recommend it to someone who wants to start with this framework.

Great Book, A nice and easy way to get started

A great introduction to Laravel for both beginners and intermediate devs
A great Introduction for beginner developers but also for savvy users that want to refine their skills.Great explanation of all the important steps to create your first web app and a lot of tailored examples to understand code snippets.Should be refined sometimes in the Routes and Views part, feeling the writer was speeding up a little bit the process in those sections.Overall is a good book and I strongly recommended it for both beginners and intermediate developers.

Not for the inexperienced
This book is not very well written and contains errors which prevent some configuration and coding examples from working. The guide for setting up a local Laravel development environment contains errors and is woefully incomplete. I'm an experienced PHP developer and web administrator but new to Laravel; it took me over two hours of research and experimentation just to get the Homestead / Laravel virtual machine installed and working properly; with the correct and complete details which should have been in this book the whole procedure should have taken 10-15 minutes. I've not found anything 'essential' about this book.

Guter Einstieg in Laravel 5
Das Buch bietet kurzen, aber meiner Meinung nach ausreichenden Einblick in Laravel 5. Ich persönlich hatte noch nie etwas mit den Vorgängerversionen programmiert, aber die Erstellung des Beispielprojekts (gleich zu Beginn des Buches) verlief absolut fehlerfrei.Ein Laravel Erfahrener ist sicher mit der direkten Laravel Docu besser beraten, als Einstieg ist das Buch aber weiter zu empfehlen!
