Color & Texture for the Rigid Heddle Loom: A Study in Yarn Selection for Weavers

I love the inspiration I get from this book. I have woven several items that just looked a little flat, but the colors in this book encouraged me to mix colors in the warp to add depth to the fabric I make. Even just using different shades of the same color can make such a difference. Also, the 60, 30, 10 rule for color is a great way to use up leftovers from other projects!

Perfect projects and concepts to expand my weaving skills to make something other than scarves and towels. Looking forward for more from her.

I got the E-book and it would no open to read, only sideways like you view a movie and small print.I did get it to open on my desktop so I can read it. I was very upset about it.

Informative, easy to follow. I loved most of the designs and the very few i didn’t could be changed fairly easily.As for difficulty with the ebook, I had no problems viewing it in portrait or landscape using an iPad.

Easy instructions well written

Really great book with detailed instructions

Although I've been weaving for about one year, I find this book to be very informative and after reading through it, I've found something new on every page to incorporate into my weaving. The instructions are very well written and easy to follow. Tammy is an excellent teacher and her book shows the degree of experience and talent she possesses. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to increase their knowledge of weaving whether they be a beginner or advanced Rigid Heddle Loom weaver. Good books on using a Rigid Heddle Loom are hard to find.....this one is a keeper!

I loved Ms Poff's first book with its gorgeous designs and assumed this would be more of the same. Yes, there are some great patterns in this book, but its so much more: its a book of the skills and techniques that are behind these patterns and how to apply them to your own work! Once again Ms Poff proves that having a rigid heddle loom is no barrier to creating exciting cloth suitable for modern clothing and that both colour and texture can be combined to achieve a level of sophistication usually reserved for the floor loom. Her section on colour theory is well written, and productive and makes what can be a very dry subject interesting, because the accompanying photos are so xplanator in themselves. All her advice is like this, to the point and practical, and there are projects to practice this that are far mor interesting than doing a sampler to show what you have learned. Ms Poff also discusses the comparison of weaving versus knitting yarns and their suitability for making garments. She covers finishing your cloth, shrinkage, and what to do before you put those scissors into it! One thing i think deserves a mention is that this time, instead of relying on knit or crochet to help create shaping and drape on the clothing, there is also an option for those of us who hate using hooks and needles. We can weave these bits instead! The amount of give and stretch from the fabric, and the ease that has to be built in to your sewing,are also covered so any clothing we make for ourselves will fit properly!There are several references to Ms Poff;s first book, and I should imagine that many people buying this book will have her first one already. Don't let the references to the first book put you off. While its recommended, its not completely necessary if you are already a competent weaver on a rigid huddle loom. with a few projects and several techniques under your belt as basic knowledge is assumed. This book is more technical than the first (which is worth buying for the fabulous patterns in it if nothing else!)and it has been long needed as weavers today push the boundaries of what can be achieved on these smaller looms. This should prove for once and for all that a rigid heddle loom is not a toy, it is a serious piece of weaving equipment and capable of producing fine cloth, and for those short on living space, its a genuine alternative to a floor loom. With weavers like Tammy Poff leading the way, the rigid heddle loom is redefining the craft of weaving, and its role in modern society, and inspiring those people who want to create their own unique clothing.
