GDFBAB0117 Plain Steel Buckler, 12""", Multi

My application for this buckler is SCA fencing including cut and thrust. We are non-choreographed and do move swords and gear a significant speed but pull our shots to not hit too hard. So, the buckler will get hit with significant energy from time to time. I have had a different buckler that I have used for 10 years or so that is thinner gauge and dented and scratched everywhere. It is very functional but no longer pretty. I expect that this will hold up better, but it hasn't seen anything but slow work so far.The buckler comes coated in motor oil and wrapped in plastic wrap for shipping. It looks great when it arrives and the oil is easy to remove with paper towels. But, this is mild steel - it will rust easily. You need to wax, blue, paint, or otherwise protect the metal fairly quickly. I have used car wax with my swords and previous buckler. In this case I gave it multiple coats of clear Rustoleum spray paint.

Its overall appearance, and functionality is good. Took several good shots in battle with a falchion, and walked away. only problem which you can tell as soon as you open the box, is the handle is garbage. Its the equivalent of a rolled up aluminum can riveted to this nice hunk of metal. Snapped right off like I figured it would in a warm up spar. So upgraded the handle and its going strong all in all good product just know you will have to mod this thing if you are planning on using it.
