FANTASTIC BOOK
This book is full of info. I got a great price on a hardcover copy from the U of Chicago. It sat on their shelves for over 30 years and no one ever broke the binding! One flaw in this book is the author does not list the drawbacks to the various crops like the Casabanana which has a very long growing season and cannot be grown in the USA. I am currently growing 20 of these crops with great success as they are very prolific and tend to be pest-free. The research into the subject is top-notch. The index is excellent. Stevia and a few other plants you might expect are not listed.

A fantastic revelation of "unknown" crops applicable to much of the world. Having traveled in a great many regions where self sufficiency is lacking because of simple 'Know-how" this book creates many avenues of experimentation and application of old foods for new areas in need.Cultivation of quinoa and lentils in Saskatchewan, Canada, on a commercial basis are good examples of a crop "transplanted" into an environment suitable for large scale production and redistribution throughout the world.Desert-derived plants with the ability to "milk" water from the air are most promising in areas of little rainfall and their testing in new areas holds great promise.

Incas ate well from a diverse array of crops, that we should not over look for the future of agriculture.
A great over view of the diversity of crops in the region, as well as cropping practices, could feel a bit of the age of the text during the reread. Most noted on future of crops/needed research. This book has been the starting ground for many a graduate students' research

Not well known crops of South America
It's an excellent resource book, especially for someone like me, with roots in South America and a degree in agriculture.

Ein informatives und fachlich gutes Buch. Es gibt Auskunft über die andinen Kulturen und deren Verfahren im Pflanzenbau.Es ist Keines, welches in deutscher Sprache zu "toppen" wäre.
