Fast and Enjoyable!
Well written high fantasy trilogy that really pulls the reader into the storyline! I enjoyed the broad world and diverse cast of well-developed characters the author created, nicely done! Story is clean while also portraying realistic characters. Would recommend to adults and young adults.

If you liked Dark Citadel, you'll love this .
The Red Sword trilogy is great. I loved the characters and the action. I can't think of anything I didn't like. I'll continue to read this author's work.

Good to read alone but better if read with the Dark Citadel
Good characters and lots of intrigue, magic and power struggles. This series helps to understand what happened in the Dark Citadel.

An interesting read
Pleasantly surprised. Interesting characters with an interesting world. Plot moves along at a brisk place. A good series that left me wishing there was more.

An exciting prequel to the Dark Citadel series that ties the whole story together.
Michael Wallace has done a fantastic job bringing the the whole series together. Can’t wait for more books to continue the story from here in multiple directions.

Sorcery and Sword!!!
The cover did a bit of a bait and switch... I expected the heroine on the cover to be the main character. She is not, but her story is very interesting. Nope, the first book in the trilogy really concerns itself with apprentice mages trying to protect their Master after his untimely death and their home from a mysterious enemy. It is cool sorcery with a well done magic system that doesn't allow for insane outcomes, and it comes at great costs and great difficulty. Brilliant. It is really cool to have a fantasy novel that really revolves around one location for the most part. The tone and naming conventions evoke a bit of Arabian Nights. The politics of the land are important but the writer avoids too much data dumping.I am into the Black Shield (2nd book) and it is equally as good as the first, but very different in structure. The enemy is revealed and their methods become a bit more spelled out... but they are still extremely dangerous despite the knowledge. Enjoying this series very much and I love that the mages are still the central characters... this often not done in a sword and sorcery setting and only occasionally in a high fantasy setting.I do think the line between Sword and Sorcery and High Fantasy tends to be one of taste, scope and attitude...but I think the Red Sword leans towards S&S just a tad.

LOVED IT!!!!!
I absolutely loved this trilogy! I was hesitant at first because of the very different magic system used, but I grew to appreciate it and it became the norm very quickly as it is well explained. I did find some grammatical errors, but they were far and few in-between and really didnt't bother me at all. I wanted the story to go on and never wanted to see the word "end" on that last page!!!I'm off now to read "The Dark Citadel Series" and have already purchased most of the rest of the books written by Micheal Wallace. I recommend this series to any lover a fantasy! So 5 Stars and hoping for more stories taking place in this wonderful world that Mr. Wallace has built here. Bravo :)

Good but does not match the facts as stated in the dark citadel series
Read this before the dark citadel series. Both enjoyable series on their own but have glaring inconsistencies in the stories, often stating this happened when it was completely different in the other book, not enjoying the dark citadel as much as I should be because I keep thinking that’s not right etc

Great Prequel to Dark Citadel series
Having already read the Dark Citadel series, I was interested to read this trilogy. I was not disappointed as it was a great prequel and gave a great background to the Dark Citadel storyline.

Flat characters
Good idea for a story but, in my opinion, not well told. The characters seem to be placeholders rather than people. The story could be exciting and suspensful but just isn't. Quite often an author gets better from first book to second so I read the first and didn't give up until halfway through the second book in this trilogy. Several potentially exciting things have happened but they haven't been sufficiently well described to be exciting. The author has a good imagination but, as far as I am concerned, insufficient story-telling ability or command of English to make the most of it. Perhaps he will develop in later books.

Good fantasy trilogy.
A good trilogy to read. Flowed well and the plot was well paced between the three. Dark Citadelz follows and I will definitely be reading that on the strength of this Trilogy.

GOOD YARN. ENJOYABLE ESCAPISM.
Still not sure if this is a prequel or a sequel to The Dark Citadel but enjoyable on its own. I did read The Dark Citadel first though and it was great to read The Red Sword after, as the Dark.Citadel. books seemed complete but left teasing questions which felt better answered later in the Red Sword books. I do recommend that one reads both series however. In whichever order.
