One of the best movies from my childhood!
I watched this movie many years ago when it came out and even then as a preteen living in Africa, I didn't even notice the nudity that so many are complaining about here. Sure women are topless but there is no sexual implication whatsoever. May I point out that the men are just as topless? There are some cultures where to this day, this is people's way of living. If you can't stand to see what a human body unclothed looks like without making it something it clearly isn't, that's on you.For my part, I remember this being such a relatable movie. I grew up hearing all kinds of superstitions and talks of witches so it was fun watching a cartoon where they incorporated these themes while at the same time teaching a lesson about strength, (not) passing judgment, and forgiveness. If you think about it, Kirikou himself is unusual from the beginning. What kid births himself and can talk from the get-go? It was only right that in the end, he turns into a beautiful warrior, fitting of all the might that he had as tiny Kirikou. I would have loved to see much more of his story, especially as an adult but I guess it wasn't to be.From time to time, I have to come back to this movie to get my nostalgia hit so it's a pleasure to find it on Amazon. The English version doesn't feel the same but it was still enjoyable.

Unique Animated Narritive
OMG, this is it! Many years ago I recorded a movie off of TV. I had a habit of always starting my recordings quite early due to things starting at 15 minute intervals and as a result I managed to capture part of a movie that fascinated me: THIS ONE! I never knew its title but I would always reference a movie that I saw that was animated and was African-centrist when talking about why I love animation and how it can portray such varied ways of life in very stylized ways and portray very interesting narratives.I was so very happy to stumble across this in Amazon recommendations as I prowled through some Japanese animation. I highly recommend this to fans of animation for both its difference in style and it's unique personality. In general, this is a tale of a boy who is born with wisdom and sets off to defeat an evil sorceress to save his village. All the men of the village are gone and only the children remain and he, the infant Kirikou, makes it his mission to complete his task and he sets out to find out why the sorceress is evil to save his mother and village and to become a man.The movie is filled with nudity between the bare breasted women and the naked children, but it is presented as it should be: as cultural, up-front, and natural. This does not detract from the narrative, nor story, and I see it as, really, a non-issue, but it may be something that some parents may want to be aware of (since it is rated as a kid's movie) even though I think it's a lovely little movie and was highly unique at the time it was made and STILL is highly unique.

Overall Great
Despite what other reviewers say, this was a great and unique film (coming from the Black American perspective). Kids would like it, but I loved it too as an adult. Yes, American's are not used to nudity. I, however, think the deseggualization of women's bodies early, through movies like this, is a good thing. American's can be so uptight and they unnecessarily eroticize everything. Despite what they say, their attitudes toward women's bodies seem to do little in breeding respect for the gender, so take detractors who complain about the nudity with a grain of salt. Also, with regard to it being produced by white Europeans....well...we all loved Encanto, right? Probably a lot of people involved with that production were white too. Overall the message is great, the animation is praiseworthy, and watching this will connect you to cultures all over the world who have known and loved it as a classic.

Good story
Always looking for interesting folk culture. Beautifully animated. Anyone that has a problem with " bare breasts" probably isn't very worldly. All nations and cultures have stories to tell and I for one enjoyed this immensely. We have so much we can learn from each other🐀🐀

A wonderful bundle of surprise!
I was ordering overseas French animation when I saw this was recommended. Taking a gamble, I ordered it along with "Raining Cats and Frogs" not expecting very much (I have to admit, it was also the side "Princes and Princesses" that made my decision).First off, the animation quality is wonderful. The seller I got it from had it in its original plastic and the DVDs were not scratched. The voice quality on it was superb - didn't encounter any problems with my old DVD player (and that thing skips even on brand new stuff). The main feature is almost hilarious in the way it sort of stretches your imagination.. Some parts are realistic and you get so into the plot, that you almost feel like it's actually happening (except, it's a newborn baby running around, talking, and pretty much being as independent as one could be).I didn't regret buying this - and in fact, am happy that I took the "gamble". It worked out for the best - it added to my collection! This is something you can't find on Netflix! The second mini-feature is called Princes and Princesses. It follows two youths, a boy and a girl, and I guess a French play-master? It was all rather unclear. But this boy and a girl would put together plays off of silly ideas they had. Some were entertaining, and contained great morals that I think even little children could grasp... and others were so sad, they actually made me cry. They all incorporated something interesting, like history, or another culture (Egyptian or Japanese, for example). All in all, if you're hesitant about buying it because you're not sure you'll like it, take the risk. In the amount of stuff this DVD-duo has, you're bound to like at least three things in it.

Fantastic Animated African Fantasy Movie
This movie was surprisingly better than anticipated. If you're used to foreign or art house films you'll appreciate the non conventional storytelling. I LOVE this movie!!!!!

Great cartoon
I have shown it to 11-12 year olds British children, once they go past the original shock of seeing naked people (the children) and half naked women, they really enjoy the story.

troppo bellino soprattutto la versione francese
e' una bellissima storia e per chi vuole far apprendere la lingua francese ai più piccini è ideale... chiaramente la pronuncia è tipica del francais africaine
