Gen. Bison (Raul Julia), the evil dictator of Shadaloo, captures a busload of relief workers and holds them for ransom. Col. Guile (Jean-Claude Van Damme) leads an international strike force to invade Shadaloo and rescue the hostages. Along the way, Guile recruits Chun-Li (Ming-Na Wen), a reporter and martial-arts expert whose father was killed by Bison years ago, two young con men (Damian Chapa, Byron Mann) and a sumo wrestler (Peter Navy Tuiasosopo).

Great Movie, love Raul Julia
Funny, campy movie. It's also quite tragic because the great Raul Julia was dying from cancer, and he looks like it, through the whole movie. Yet he was determined to leave a fun action movie that his kids could watch after he was gone. I've read stories about his children being on the set during filming so they could spend as much time with them as possible. Mr Julia gives everything he has to the roll. He is an absolute delight. JCVD is all kicks and swagger and charm, as usual. It's not the best videogame to movie adaptation but it's very far from the worst.See it for fun, buy it for Raul Julias final performance.

Goofy but fun
If you're like me and grew up as a kid in the 80s and 90s this movie is nostalgic. Definitely the cheesy kind of pop culture movie from the 90s. Not as good as the Mortal Kombat movie. I'm sure some people would think this one is lame in comparison... if you break it down, the acting is silly and I personally wish they would have handled certain characters differently, but it's a movie from a different era. It's fun in its own way.

Great Game, Cheesy Movie, Great Action
I have always loved this movie. During the mid 90's, the special effects were getting better. Still cheesy, but better. Of course, between this and the Mortal Combat movie that come out about almost the same time, Mortal Combat won that one in the movie theaters. However, even though this movie bombed in the theaters, it's still great entertainment for those of us that like the cheese to go on your fries, lol. Obviously, they weren't trying to win an Oscar award with this film, however, it was Raul Julia's last movie before he passed and it was cool that they mentioned his name at the end of the film. Anyway, if you're into Martial Arts movies and 90's flicks, then this is for you.

Classic Van Damme
Another crappy, yet classic JCVD film that delivers my monthly doses of late 20th century action. Does the movie suck? Yes. But don't we watch them because they are so gloriously terrible? Great movie if you want to see needless, poorly acted violence and poorly scripted screen play that parades itself as a movie to be taken seriously. Cut from the same cloth as movies like:"Showdown in Little Tokyo", "Big Trouble in Little Chinatown", and "Universal Soldier."

Definitely One Of The Better Made Early Video Game Movies...Though That Might Not Be Saying Much
Whenever I think of video game movies, I always think of only three movies: Super Mario Brothers, Street Fighter, and Double Dragon. Perhaps because these were the first three made or perhaps because I loved all three as a kid. Either way, of those three, it's Street Fighter I seem to always think of the most as far as these kind of movies go.Street Fighter: The Movie came out in 1994, a year after the release of Super Mario Brothers. Let's just be upfront in saying it's no where near being an Oscar worthy movie. It's probably not even really "good", at that. It's a somewhat cheesy or campy movie (but not as much as SMB and no where near as much as Double Dragon). But I've always really enjoyed the movie. So what is the plot of the movie? This is one place I think it hurt itself with a lot of Street Fighter fans. As was once said, for a movie called Street Fighter....there's a glaring lack of street fighting, much less a tournament. I could have easily seen the movie be your standard martial arts film in that sense had they made it a bit more like the games. However, in the movie, Bison is as he is in the games: a power mad dictator out for world domination. Opposing him is the Allied Nations with Guile commanding the army. And that's basically the plot. Bison has taken a large group of people hostage and has given the world 72 hours to hand him $20 billion in ransom while the main characters set out to stop him and rescue the hostages (though they don't all come together until towards the end of the movie). Many of the major characters from the games out at the time are in the movie as well. Ryu and Ken are a couple of con artists who rip off criminals, Sagat and Vega, both former cage fighters, operate as arms dealers for Bison, Chun Li, out to avenge her father, Balrog, who is one of the more major departures from his game counterpart, and E. Honda work as reporters, and Guile, like his game counterpart, is after Bison partially to avenge his friend Charlie who is combined with Blanka from the game as in the movie, Charlie IS Blanka. Zangief, though not like in the game, works for Bison.I bought the blu-ray "Extreme Edition" version of the movie. Admittedly I never owned the DVD so I can't compare. But I thought the image quality was nice. I have no complaints there. There's several special features but so far I've only watched the deleted scenes. There's unfortunately only two of them and both center around Chun Li.The only "big name" people in the movie are Raul Julia as M. Bison and Jean Claude Van Damme who plays Colonel William F. Guile. Both give good performances (as good as it can be given the circumstances). Raul Julia definitely takes the cake though as my favorite performance of the movie. It was clear he was enjoying himself with the role. It's only sad because Raul Julia died not long after the movie came out. I remember always seeing the "For Raul. Vaya con dios" at the end but never realizing what it meant (both with RJ's death and I didn't know Spanish at the time--it means go with God). Now that I do, I felt a twinge of sadness as it appeared and the credits rolled.Another thing I've heard people didn't like about the movie is they changed the central character. In the games, Ryu is the central/main character while in the movie, it's Guile. While Guile is my favorite character (in both the games and movie), I can understand. All in all, can you really say Street Fighter is a "good" movie? Probably not. But something about it I can't quite put my finger on has always made me really enjoy the movie. Truth be told, it's probably my favorite video game movie.

Interesting only as a footnote in once great career.
I love Van Damme, but this is where he really went off the rails. You can see the coke-sweat pouring off him. This movie is a mess. I feel especially sad that it Raul Juiia's final performance. What a sad send off.

Damaged
carrier dropped the package a few hours ago. Open it and found the dvd box damaged. Opened the sealed DVD and found it outside of the clip. Pulled the movie to inspect it and found it scratched. Places it inside my Blu-ray player and it skipped a few times.

A Little 90's Nostalgia
I was in high school when this movie came out, when the games were really popular. If you can get past the fact that Jean-Claude couldn't fake an American accent, and the few bad jokes the writers threw in, you will like this movie. The movie is different from the anime series, and the video games, but that's usually the case with any live action series. If they had refrained from the cheesy jokes, the movie would've been much better than it was. Buying this movie, also pays tribute Raul Julia's memory, since this was his last one before passing away from a stroke that same year.

A very good Van Damme Classic, updated for Blu-ray.
Very nice edition of the film to have. They basically took the original (dvd version) and gave it a nicer look and feel for the sake of Blu-ray and HD home entertainment. If you happened to like classic Van Damme action and like this title being in your collection, then I for one would recommend this product. Not to mention very nice addition to your SF memorabilia collection as well, if you happened to be into that as well. Far out, totally.

Acting alert!!!!!!!
Please do not think i have a problem with Jean Claude as i don't. What i am saying is that his physical acting is perfect but his dialogue ieaves a lot to be desired. as for the film itself, the characters are all wrong and the action was subdued to a crawl rather than a run. but hats off to Raul, even though this was his last film, he looks as though he really enjoyed himself. Only watch this if you are a diehard fan but if you liked the games and the anime then stear very far away from this.

Classic
This is such a classic film. It is funny and fairly light hearted and takes your memory for a walk down memory lane. Don't expect the latest special effects or cgi's as some people do even though it is an old film but this makes it an excellent film, no flashy displays and showing off of technology. It is just pure, simple and fun.

You son of a *gun* Bison!
Came promptly! Only complaint--and it's minor is that the UK version is censored. Street Fighter censored? Hahah, mmmk. Other than that, quite happy with my purchase!
