Christology of the Later Fathers, Icthus Edition (Library of Christian Classics)

I read this book for Theology Breakfast. Thankful! I did learn a lot that is very hard book to chew on.

The thinkers and works selected are essential to gaining an understanding of the era's developing Christologies. The editors' introductions are helpful, but even more helpful are the bibliographies compiled for each thinker.However, I think one of the most important advantages recommending this book is its physical character. The volume is tight and sturdy, and the paper contrasts well with the type without being too bright a white. Too often these thinkers are read in decaying library copies or on the internet. Westminster John Knox Press has produced a volume that is a far superior option to either of these--a fact which will, I think, help and encourage the reader as they explore this fascinating period in Christian history.

This collection of the Later Fathers focuses on St. Athanasius, St. Gregory of Nazianzus, St. Gregory of Nyssa, and then a chunk of documents relating to the same time period.The actual writings of the saints are gathered after some very well written introductions that propose the historical context and help establish some of the footing required to understand them. The texts can probably be found elsewhere online, but this is a helpful volume dealing with the major movements of the 4th and 5th century.

I enjoy early church history and this book has some good examples of the church fathers. A good value for the price.

Book wasn't brand new.Also the cover was different. (Received an order edition.)

Athanasius, Gregory of Nazianzus, and Gregory of Nyssa are brillliant theologians of their time, and the comments and clarifications by the editor help to make their writings more comprehensible. This is a thorough study and analysis of Christ, probing the questions surrounding the Incarnation and refuting the heresies of that day and age.
