Birdwell Men's Board Shorts - Medium Length

Ordered a 30 and they were too big and falling off my hips when the laces were tied up all the way. So I paid the return fee and ordered a 29. The 29 is so tight I can't even tie up the laces. I'm not sure if one of the pairs I ordered was made incorrectly or what. What I know for sure is I'm out two return fees and have no Birdwells. Really bummed and disappointed.

Birdies. What can I say? Awesome surf shorts. Yes, I know. These shorts are friggen EXPENSIVE! however, they are MADE IN THE USA! not China or elsewhere. Those might be a little cheaper, but the quality just isn't there. I mean they cost maybe $20 less, but the companies that sell them probably get them for $5 each, then Mark them up crazy because of a silkscreened name printed on them. I'd rather support the USA. Can't believe I waited so long to try Birdwells. Get your TRUE waist measurement if you use these to SURF. Wouldn't want them coming off at inopportune moments..

I wear a 34 waist and I'm 6'1" 195 lbs. I read the reviews on how they run a size smaller and ordered a 35. They fit like a 34 1/2 with a little more extra room in the waist than a 34. Once you're in the water for a half an hour they loosen up even more. In the water if I tie them as tight as they go they stay on with only a little bit of my behind showing, out of the water they fit pretty much perfect. They sit just above the knee and shape to your body for a comfortable fit. If these ever wear out I'd buy another pair.

I ordered these as a gift for my husband who wore these 40 years ago! I thought it might be a nice nostalgic gift. They arrived quickly and were a great royal blue color. They were almost identical to the ones he wore back in the 1970s, except those had a Velcro closure with tie cord and these new ones have a button fly with tie cord. He preferred the Velcro, but that is not an option. We also thought the fabric in these was a big heavier and sturdier than the ones from his teenage years, but time might have altered those memories. These turned out to run a little large on him. I returned this style. When we reordered, he decided to try the Stretch Style instead in a smaller size. Those were perfect! They don't come in the same colors as this style, but he is happy with the purchase.

These are almost perfect; My only complaints are that they are tight in the crotch when you sit down, and there is a giant freakin' logo on the back side, like what you'd see on a boxer's shorts. I also followed everyone's advice and ordered the next size up and it was a mistake; mine fit me a bit too loose up top and I cannot cinch then down enough.But the material and construction are awesome. They dry super fast. And they are nice looking too.

I usually wear a 34, ordered a 35 to gave a little extra room. Good thing, because even the 35s were a bit snug. Also one of the buttons bike in half after the first use. Other than that, same ole birdwells that I used to buy years ago!

I’m 6’1” normal build, no gut but no muscle, 190lbs with a 34” waist. Here is my review and a full explanation.Fit = 1/5Construction = 5/5Look/feel = 3/5Fit: These don’t fit me well at all. I’m typically in between 34” & 35”. I wear a 34” in Levi’s and a Large in athletic shorts. Ordered these trunks in a 34” and they were way too tight in the hips and waist. Most trunks/shorts that are a little tight will work for me bc most stretch a little. These have no stretch or give so if you’re in between sizes you’re SOL. Sent the 34s back and got a 36. The 36s were WAY too big. Almost went with the 35s but honestly I don’t think it would matter much and that’s because of the design. Instead of being cut to the natural curves of a body or at least having a little “give” to the material these trunks are the about the same size in the hips as they are in the waist. If you’re built like a box from the waist down you’ll be ok. I, like 99% of most men, am not. If these fit you well in the hips they will be big in the waist and you’ll have a gap. If these fit you in the waist they’ll be tight in the hips. For me they don’t fit. So what did I did? I order the 34” in the new stretch shorts. Hopefully the stretch will give me a little more room and they’ll fit.Construction: amazing. These are tough shorts. Stitching is great, eyelets are solid. I can see these shorts lasting a lifetime, that’s if you can find a pair to fit you.Look/feel: the look great. The patch in the back and the off colored stitching is “cool” for lack of a better term. The only downside to the loo is that they are a little too shiny. It’s like they’re made out of plastic tarp material.The feel is smooth so that’s nice. I’m sure they’re comfortable at the beach all day. But again, they don’t fit or stretch at all so it’s like you’re wearing boxy shorts made out of tarp.

Love them, look good, just a little small, but maybe that will help with the dieting and exercise. Nylon is a little light-weight, hope they will withstand a lot of abrasion over the years to come, will be on lots of rocky shorelines.
