so far so good
I haven't started the diet yet, so this is review is solely on my first impressions of the book.To be completely honest I did not read the bulk of the beginning of the book. I hate all of that motivational "you can change your life" talk. I get that it helps most people, but the beginning is so redundant. The author is basically saying that "vegetables are great!" over and over again. I get it. I bought the book.Another thing that bothered me was that the shopping lists for the 3 weeks are listed in one section, and the recipes were in a different section. The shopping lists should have been grouped with the recipe's for that week. Not scattered all over the place. If you buy the kindle version, it's annoying to keep going back and forth to see what you will need to buy.The last thing that drove me crazy was that there are no serving sizes for the recipes, which can be really confusing, and can make you waste a ton of money if you're not careful. I assumed that the items on the shopping list were for one person, but the recipes make enough for two people, sometimes even more. I guess you can always save them for the next day, but just be careful when you go shopping. I spent a pretty penny on that first shopping trip, but luckily my husband decided to try the diet with me. Plan your trip to the store carefully. The recipes themselves seem tasty, but since I have not tried any of them yet, I will update later. The book seems pretty common sense. I think if you're really struggling with losing weight, this is a good guide to start with, but there are a lot of ingredients I would probably not purchase again.UPDATE 11/28/2015I've been on this diet for almost a week now, and I'm down 3 pounds. I'm sure I would have lost more if I had been following the workout plan, but I'm happy with the results. I'm going to reiterate that I only bought this book for the recipes. I did not read the bulk of this book.As far as the recipes go, this book needs a whole lot of editing. The shopping lists are divided by each week. Except there are some ingredients that you don't use until the following week. Sometimes that's fine, but when everything is fresh it's not like you can keep it for a while and wait to use it again. There are also some fruits that are not used for anything, which I'm assuming were listed there so you can use them as snacks. And then there are ingredients that are listed for week 2, that you need for week 1. So frustrating having to go to the grocery store multiple times.I did find the serving sizes of the ingredients on their website, but that should have definitely been listed in the book.As far as the recipes go, I have a huge sweet tooth and absolutely hate vegetables. I found that a lot of the dishes looked a lot worse than they tasted. I actually look forward to certain vegetables now. Even though I do think everything needs a bit more salt.

Be Prepared to Plan and Cook
For those who are familiar with and/or are fans of Hungry for Change or Food Matters (both were free on Netflix for a long time) the dietary suggestions in this book will come as no surprise. Go vegan/organic, it's better for the planet, it's better for you.The Pros:At just two days into this book and its suggested dietary regime I cannot attest to any weight loss but I can say that the food overall has been good and very filling. With the caveat that I don't eat much meat to start with (except sushi) and already had incorporated a good deal of green and fresh vegetables into my families diet. There is no way I could begin to eat the portions allowed per meal and I have already discovered several fun new recipes that I will use long term. In addition, my toddlers are trying some great new foods that are good for them and they like that were not formally a part of my repertoire. The Cons:I am used to cooking lentils and quinoa, I also have access to a Whole Foods. If this does not describe you, you may find that the recipes are a bit brief (cook lentils to desired consistency). The first challenge for many will be to find the right lentils at the local grocery store, then figure out what the heck the consistency of lentils should be. Suggestion, Google if need be or YouTube cooking videos, also plan ahead that many of the ingredients may have to be bought on Amazon and delivered. Second major problem is cooking time, lunch may need to be planned carefully as it can take up to an hour to prepare the lunchtime dish (which is generally the heaviest of the day). It also requires carefully reviewing what you are eating the next day as some dishes require overnight preparation (soaking beans, letting chia pudding set.) So for those of us lacking a personal chef like Beyonce just be prepared to plan and cook.I gave the book for stars because I felt that it wasn't contributing significantly regarding groundbreaking dietary ideas and for the several cons listed above. That being said I think it is a great way for individuals and families to try a healthier diet, with some yummy food, regardless of their other health or weight loss goals. In addition Mr. Borges seems passionate about his subject which is something that I can appreciate in an author.

Hard to get in to. Better vegan books out there
Didn't love it. I have a few vegan books. This was my least favourite. I just found it hard to get in to. Perhaps just personal preference, but it's not, my scene.
