This is not your typical doll's house; this book unfolds to over four feet long to display scenes from 19th century life. There is a merchant's shop with a multitude of drawers, barrels and a dog stealing sausages; a parlor complete with fold-out piano, and a kitchen with mother at the antique stove.There are doors connecting each scene so a child could move figurines in and out, but you might want to keep the kids away from this doll's houseOn the back of the display is a short history of Lothar Meggendorfer, who is considered the "chief innovator and master craftsman of moveable toy books," or the father of pop-up books. The Doll's House is considered one of the best examples of his work. This fine reproduction is a joy to explore.
