Replacement holder
The holder which comes with the DM0500 is not good since it allows the cutting edge to protrude out the bottom on to the granite counter dulling the blade. However this holder works perfectly as a replacement for the DM0500 holder.

and I like this more
This fits the Ken Oion 8"Shun Chefs Knife perfectly. I have the original cradle, and I like this more.

A $10 item at _best_
After having my Ken Onion Shun chefs knife just sitting on my chopping block for a year and a half, I decided to splurge and buy this holder for it. What a huge disappointment this thing is. I paid $30 for it and feel completely ripped off. Why? To start, if I'd made this in eighth grade shop class, I'd be lucky to get a "B" on it - and that's if the teacher was in a good mood. The shape is fine, but the surface finish is totally unacceptable and should have been an embarrassment to whoever made it. The wood is completely unfinished and I'm not sure that they sanded it down at all after cutting it to shape. They for sure didn't sand down the inside of the groove made to hold the blade. It comes wrapped in cheap shrink wrap with no outer box or anything. To the seller's credit, they did wrap it in bubble wrap on top of that. When I unpacked mine, the surface was shedding wood fibers, and those peeled back even more when I rinsed it off. After spending time sanding it down myself and putting on two applications of Howard BBC012 Butcher Block Conditioner, it definitely looks better and is the only reason why I gave it two stars instead of one. You as a customer shouldn't pay $30 for a single knife holder and expect a fixer-upper, though.I say it's a $10 item at best, but it's more in the $5 range, IMO. I've gotten $6 flashlights with impeccable fit and finish on the aluminum pieces, but Ken Onion can't bother to sand down a piece of wood and put some sort of finish on it for $30? Come on.Probably obvious by now, but I DO NOT RECOMMEND this at all. Well, unless you can get it for about $5.

I first liked this holder for my Shun chef knife but the wood broke within a month at the point it holds the tip of the knife in place. I now have some tacky tape over that area to use it. Disappointed at the design.
