What'S In Your Genes?

A peek into the fascinating world of genetics!
This book deserved a 10-on-10. The writing style is super-friendly, there is plenty humor to make you want to read a bit more, every time you want to put this down. Plenty of fun facts to brag about around your friends!I bought this book for pleasure reading only to realize it's potential as a "co-academic" book (I invented this word, don't try to look it up.). This explains the basics of all the key processes viz. The central dogma, chromosome packing, inheritance, genetic disorders, among others in a very easy to understand way. It is my belief that any biology student who reads this before going through the "Formal Textbook" chapters will be able to pickup things faster and better. This is the kind of book that draws people to science. Love it! Highly recommended.

A Scientist and Biologist with Personality Plus, Makes this Book a Hit!!!!!!
"Guys! Baldness has nothing to do with your dad!" This is just one of the super fun and enlightening chapters in McKissick's book. Most of us aren't scientists and those who are may not be as interesting, funny, clever, and creative as this author. (Okay, let's face it—most aren't—but Katie is!) What's in your genes is for everyone—scientists and lay people, alike. From the color of your eyes to the length of your hair, "What's in Your Genes?" will help you to fast and easily decode your DNA. I have bought this book for my family and my friends. I keep my copy nearby and have had a blast learning why I'm a lefty and why those 4 little letters in my DNA make me who I am.I'll be featuring this book and Katie McKissick on my FB Fans of Anne Bruce page this weekend. The fun doesn't stop in the last chapter, "The Future of Genetics." Trust me, this author is a super great example of how being a scientist, a fabulous author, an innovator, and creative biologist, cartoonist and more, is just what the world needs right now!!!!!

Wonderful!
What a fantastic book! It covers genetics at a pretty simple level, however, the reader should have a basic understanding of biology before picking it up if they want to enjoy it to its fullest. I have never been good at genetics (I skipped that day in high school...seriously!) and since then have been embarrassingly bad in this area of a biology. As an environmental biologist it's something I feel as though I should know better but have managed to avoid thus far. Thankfully, this book came along and accurately summed up my thoughts on genetics - when read through a textbook (hint - it's boring). This book has given me a renewed interest and understanding in genetics and has encouraged me to retake those genetics classes I hated so much. Definitely recommended this book to biologists and non-biologists alike! I might just buy copies for all my friends for Christmas! Thank you Katie for the great read!

Great!
