Exactly what I expected - good sound quality, but very bass and treble-heavy out of the box.
I bought these to replace a pair of Edifier E30 Spinnaker for PC use (games and music). The Edifiers were wonderful sound for the money and very well balanced. However, their build quality left much to be desired. A few DIY repairs later and they've finally given up the ghost, so I wanted something cheap-ish to replace them.I'd consider myself a semi-hifi buff - I appreciate well-balanced sound. Unsurprisingly, these Logitechs are very bass and treble-heavy, as they're quite small and have a massive subwoofer. If you're fussy about music, they're good value for money, but make sure you have the ability to control the levels from your soundcard. Most these days allow this, so I've spent some time tweaking to get a balanced sound - mainly turning down the frequencies below ~125 Hz, turning up some of the mids (~1kHz) and taming (i.e. turning down) some of the treble (~4kHz).UPDATE - added a screenshot of my equaliser settings. This works for a wide variety of music (heavy rock (e.g. Every Time I Die), female vocals (e.g. Imogen Heap), trance (e.g. Armin van Buuren). Now I'm pretty happy with them!

Fine if 75 percent off..
I have used Logitech speakers for many years and really like them for what they are. However, I always used the £20 to £40 range and with a few EQ adjustments (or having the bass control all the way down) they work ok. The issue with these ones is that they are a lot more expensive whilst offering the same 2.1 setup.Pros:-Good power-Very good frequency range (very low and very high sounds)-Simple looksCons:-Although they have a wide frequency range, it is totally unbalanced and almost unusable right out of the box.-The subwoofer is too big and overkill for the size of the satellites.-The cable that joins the satellites is not very long and way too thick.I am not a speaker engineer but having a tweeter/midrange satellite that is only about 2inches coupled with a massive subwoofer is going to sacrifice midrange and other things (it is simple physics!).Sound: I like the sparkling highs (they are not harsh but clear). The midrange is not all the way there because the crossover cannot be optimised in such a design. In other words, the sub cannot play midrange very well and the tweeter is busy doing its thing. The result is that the midrange suffers. To be fair, the midrange is always sacrificed in this type of 2.1 computer speaker setup. So, what is the appeal of such speakers? Well, the satellites are small enough to fit on a work desk, and that's the selling point for me. However, the really thick cable is a pain. Also, one should be able to place the master satellite on either side depending on personal needs (where the plug is or where the sub is placed).Anyway, I got my set heavily discounted so I kept them. Unfortunately, there is no alternative because any other decent speakers are going to be too big to be place on a small working desk. In summary, they are worth it only if heavily discounted and if you have space constrains on your desk. However, you may be better off buying a cheaper set by the same manufacturer.

Great value for money, but have a design flaw
I've so far owned 3 different speaker systems of this exact model. They all slowly, but steadily, developed the same problem - the volume knob causing a of lot static noise whenever it is touched. At the beginning, there is no static, or it's very faint. But with time, it just keeps getting worse. My current one at my home causes static that is twice as loud as the music I'm playing. I use them for my PC, so I always adjust the volume from the knob on the speaker. Really disappointing they haven't made the part you touch most more durable. Many years before this model was out, I had the X-530 model - same issue with the volume knob. Baffling.

Thumping amazing
I ordered these speakers with little hesitation. The only hesitation I had was the fact that I was converting from some studio monitors (Behringer MS40's to be precise). They handled high frequencies, acoustic music flawlessly. Low end...not so much.I wanted something with a punch! Something that enabled me to feel music again with the thumps of the low end frequencies. With monitors I didn't get that as I didn't have a sub woofer. Yes I could buy one separately but I didn't have the means of plugging it in with more cables and the lack of a USB sound-card interface.Out of the box I fully understood why I purchased them in the first place, my god the subwoofer is amazing! I have it placed on three pieces of sound absorbing foam and it really does tighten up the bass response. Kick drums on songs feels like I'm kicking it myself! Amazing.Without doing any tweaking I noticed it was mainly just bass and treble, no mid. Determined to get the best out of them I configured my sound-card to reproduce the highest bit rate possible. I did the same with the sound device options on Windows and voila! The middle end appears and it sounds so full! Music is amazing, games sound even more exciting now and movies...It sounds like I'm in a cinema! Thanks to the THX quality there.I highly recommend these speakers, just please please configure your sound card bit rate and the same in audio devices on your computer to really get the most out of these amazing little speakers. They sound so much better than my old monitors. I love them, I hope you will too.
