My First Colors (My First Board Books)

My kids adore this book.
We have two young children and we are working on teaching them while having fun. Colors are a definite favorite in our home. They love this book. As a parent, I love that it is a board book that is a bit easier to keep in tact; although I am sure my 2-year-old will challenge that. The pictures are vibrant and it adds a little colorful fun to our day.

A must have for your baby’s book collection!!
I absolutely love the DK My First board book collection! This is my 4th book in the set and totally worth it. For starters my 16 month old loves these books and finds so much joy in showing me all the words she knows. I have been able to find some of these books at my local library but not this one so I decided to get it in order to teach her colors. As far as the layout goes, the book includes the colors Blue, Yellow, Green, Orange, Purple, Pink, Brown, Black and White, and Rainbow. The first 5 colors have 2 pages full of various items in that color. Followed by a 2 page spread of a photographed scene of something in nature. What I like:- Perfect size for packing in a diaper bag to take to church or to a restaurant to keep the little one’s attention.- I counted and there are roughly 90 words your child can learn from this book and that doesn’t include the words you will use as you talk about the different pictures you see.- The pictures are beautiful and realistic. What I don’t like:- This is not a huge deal but some items are not shown in the color you would expect them to represent. For example, they have a picture of a yellow eraser rather than the typical pink eraser.Overall, I would highly recommend these books to anyone with a child between the ages of 6 months and 3 years! The price is totally worth it considering the hours of reading time you will get to enjoy! Please let me know if you found this helpful :)

Practically Perfect in Every Way
My daughter and all my grandchildren have learned their colors by having a My First Colors book read to them from the time of their birth. Every one of them could recognize and say their colors as soon as they could talk -- at 17 months, my oldest granddaughter pointed at the blue jello served to her in a restaurant and said, "boo." And now he she is expecting a daughter who will learn colors the same way. This book is a great, timeless teaching tool that provides an easy bonding time for the child and the person who reads to her. There are a number of pictures depicting each color - we simply ad the name of the color before each picture: red cherries, red car, red flower, etc. So much better than having just one picture of each color! You cannot go wrong with this book.

Lookin’ Sharp
Graphics are beautiful, crisp and vibrant. They are all photos of items, not drawings or illustrations. 2 year old love just looking at this book not just for the colors but to identify objects/new words.

Not consistent throughout
I love this book because it has a page showing different items of a particular color and all the objects are labeled. The book also has an entire two page spread of just one object with that color in order to focus on the color and not necessarily just the objects. Personally I would have done the 2-page spread first to learn the color itself and followed by the object examples. I also would have chosen different images for the 2-page spreads to really focus on the color better - like a pile of red berries instead of a fire engine in front of a building which had more than the red color in the image. Overall, the book looses a star mostly for not doing the 2-page spread with all colors presented - it skips doing it for pink, black, white, and brown. Those colors would not have been hard to also have a 2-page spread, but the publisher purposely chose to skip them - and I do not like inconsistency in books.

Wonderful
Me and my twins just love love these series! We were given "My first library" books with 3 books in it when the twins were 3 mths old. Now, by 2 yo my babies know entire alphabet, most colours and shapes, and can count to 10 and back thanks to these books! These books are very bright and colourful with the real pictures and not animated ones, easy to follow and very educational. That's why I've ordered more of

Great learning resource
My 21 month old daughter understood colours the second time we read it. She ran over to a yellow bag and pointed to it after reading the yellow page. Now she runs to the book, flips to the yellow banana and says ‘nana’! Our household banana consumption has gone way up since this book arrived.
